Why is rape such a big deal?

In the wake of the recently discussed Ohio University false rape case, which highlighted how men are presumed guilty of some mystically awful crime based solely on some lying skank's allegation, no matter how utterly ridiculous the allegation might be, I thought it might be a good time to ask this question. Even in the tiny minority of rape cases where a rape actually occurred, why is this such a big deal? Some Western skank's toxic, flaccid orifice gets used one more time than she anticipated, and this is supposed to be the crime of the century? It seems like the main crime is one against good taste. Why does it warrant punishment beyond perhaps a nominal fine?

Perhaps people who think rape actually is a big deal might like to explain their position. What harm is done to society? (And pleeze, lets not go on about the skanks' hurt feelings. And why is it thought that females should whimsically choose who to have sex with anyway, when their choices are consistently disastrous?

Oh sure. I was thinking more of Western sluts. The Bible says that if you rape a chaste woman you should pay her father a sum of money to compensate him for the devaluation of his asset and offer to marry her. That makes sense. Obviously raping a married woman is the serious crime of adultery, but then so is consensual sex with one. Many cultures would hold that using force to get a married woman to have sex with you is a mitigating factor compared to seducing her since it doesn't involve corrupting the woman.

I've wondered the same thing. Why does rape traumatize a woman or girl so much? Are they really traumatized or just exaggerating? If she is a slut, what is the big deal with another notch on her belt even if it's forced upon her? Yeah it may be violating and morally wrong, but why is it treated like the crime of the century? First off, why would you be so desperate and pathetic to have sex with someone that doesn't want to have sex with you? If she turned me down, I'd leave. If she was my gf and she started to do that regularly, I'd break up with her. Why stick around for someone that doesn't desire you sexually? You just f***ing LEAVE...you don't violate their personal decision about their own body.

I will agree with you that some drunk woman who invites a man into her home and then f***s him has no right to cry rape. She spent hours with the guy, invited her back to her place and gave in to having sex willingly. Crying rape due to regret is criminal IMO. That is a different scenario. Forcible rape is a violent act that is indefensible. Saying it is alright because they have had sex with other men is like saying it is alright for you to try and beat the shit out of an amateur boxer in the streets because he consents to fighting all the time, what harm is one more going to cause? There are many things that can traumatize an individual when they are forced to do them. Many soldiers kill every day and don't bat an eye, but if you put a gun in my hands and forced me to shoot someone innocent it would f**k me up for life.

The mental consequences of an action depend highly on the context. I find that people who view sex as nothing more than an act of getting off and self gratification, the sort that frequent hoes and never develop an emotional attachment to women, tend to be the ones that view rape as not a big deal. When your context for sex is that it is a transactional act, you just view the woman as getting ripped off since she is getting nothing for the act, which to you isn't a big deal because you think her services are overvalued anyway. You might even view it as justice for her lifetime of setting her sexual price to high for you to afford. To those of us that view sex from an emotional perspective, as an act that solidifies an emotional bond between a couple, rape is viewed as a great intrusion of one's personal intimacy. It is revolting for reasons that are complex and difficult to describe, which I suppose boil down to a great violation of one's ability to make a choice about whom to share the most intimate parts of themselves with, both in vulnerability and in the physical sense. There is reason rape is one of the oldest forms of torture, after all.

There is a massive problem with rapes being falsely reported, but real rape that involves the use of force or coercion is a terrible thing. If you disagree with this statement, perhaps one day you will have the pleasure of dealing with your wife, sister, or mother getting raped and just telling them is no big deal.

Problem is rape is applied way too broadly as a blanket term and any act which falls under that umbrella (as long as it's male on female) tends to get universally condemned very harshly in most parts of world. However, if a guy gets ass raped, well that tends not to fall under the umbrella so its funny you mention that case.

I've read stats which suggest 1 out of 4 college women claim to have been raped, often at frat parties and the like.

This thread is not stupid. Winston brought up something which I've thought about long ago. Men get ass raped all the time by the concept and how its perceived and enforced. There's totally false accusations, cases where guys get too aggressive and go too far in the act when woman changes mind last minute (guilty but not to the tune of decades behind bars and life ruined), etc. I know a couple cases where guys got screwed over (one in States and one overseas) over some bitches accusations.

Yes, the violent, extreme, heinous cases should get extremely harsh punishment, I agree. But so should violent muggers against other men and all other violent offenders.

There's a lot of nuances to the concept of rape which should be distinguished by justice systems.
