I wouldn't have learned so much about it my ex-wife didn't suffer from it. Although I perhaps only had it once, sleep paralysis is a disconcerting experience. Your brain is basically fully awake but your body is disconnected and paralysed. In most cases, your eyesight is on but your hearing is not, so all you experience is the noises produced by your internal organs.
The most typical symptom of sleep paralysis is exactly what's depicted in the painting: the sensation that someone, perhaps an invisible or demonic entity, is very close to you. Anxiety and semi-paralysed chest muscles also make breathing difficult, thus giving the perception that such invisible entity is not just close to you, but sitting or pressing on your chest, or stomach.

When I was a teenager I was living at home with my ma (who is a bitch btw!!!)
And I remember this one day I was walking upstairs to my room and I saw a vortex open up at the top of the stairs!! Some strange thing came out, best thing I can describe it as was a kind of demon..... followed by some strange shadow men.....
After a few seconds all of it vanished and I was left mulling over the ordeal with a sense of confusion and disbelief.....
How can I reconcile with such an encounter when I am a complete atheist and dont even believe in this kind of thing.....
A few days later my mum found my porn collection and I swear blind it was because of those demon things whatever they are
Theres also been occasions of things moving by themselfs in the house. A spoon clincked into a cup by the sink. Books moved across the shelves, a glass flew off the table by itself and doors opened and closed by themselves. There were footsteps in the hallway and it all started after I saw the vortex and this continued for months....

Experiencing events that cannot be (easily) explained by today's scientific knowledge doesn't mean you need to drop your beliefs in science, or the scientific method.
Is your family house close to electrical power generation or distribution infrastructure? Maybe a power substation next door, or large electrical wires nearby? Their explanation was that the electrostatic energy, in large quantities, might interfere with the fabric of spacetime, allowing objects to behave in "un-physical" way and even entities from other dimensions crossing over to ours.
Maybe, one day, mainstream science will be able to explain these phenomena. For now, the money is on understanding how to screw each other up socially, financially and morally.

I am still devoutly atheist and I accept the scientific explaination for the creation of the universe, despite the arguments put forward by some of the other fellas here (tho im grateful they replied all the same)
