Rare Bruce Lee Interview

Post by Winston »

Check out this rare and forgotten interview with Bruce Lee by Ted Thomas. It shows how extraordinary he was in his mind, attitude and philosophy.

Rock even told me once that Bruce Lee was the most confident Asian male he's ever seen. If you listen to him talk, you'll see why.

Btw, Bruce Lee admitted during this interview that he's not a saint, and that one of his flaws is that he has a "bad violent temper". At least he was honest about it.

Here is part 1 and 2 of the interview:

How was Bruce Lee so fast but at the same time so strong? The secrete behind his speed and power. Its so easy but I bet none of you will get the right answer, it took me 2 years of none stop training to equal to Bruce lee, literately.

Comparing Bruce and Cheng Long, it's obvious that Cheng was much faster than Bruce.

Bruce was better looking, more buff and such a bad ass and an innovator so he looked faster compared to the competition in 1964-1973.

In China Bruce is a hero, but Cheng is widely considered better when I ask random people.

I wonder if ThinkDifferent/Red Dog has seen these two videos.

Bruce Lee is one of the greatest movie actors who did tremendous job for martial art action movies. I liked his movies, especially “The Chinese Connection “and Enter the Dragon.

I liked Chinese Connection too. i think that's what he is referencing at 44 seconds into the first video - the Butch & Sundance ending he talks about. I think this film, for its initial on Kong release, was called Fist of Fury (not to be confused with "Fists of Fury", which I think was called The Big Boss in Hong Kong.)

Prolific filmmakers, those folks in HK. Can you imagine developing a film industry to serve what was then such a small market? And inventing the whole suspended from wires thing, at least as far as film is concerned.

Haha yeah i was thinking of Winston when watching. Bruce was our ideal in my teenage years. Among my white racialist friends it was said that he was half-white. I doubt that is true, but at the time made us feel better about admiring him so much.

Really nice find, Winston. Thanks for posting. Good stuff to watch, just as an essay about manhood.

Re image and sex, this guy had "real crossover appeal" - and I believe had at least one LTR with a white girl, plus plenty more on the side...

I'll never forget listening to a white Southern woman, announcing over to us in a crowded restaurant at lunchtime, in front of her all-man six-foot-six martial-artist brilliant-PhD good-provider husband, go on about how she wanted to meet Bruce Lee and "jump his bones."

First time I heard that phrase. Also the first mention of interracial sex I heard in "polite company". Not sure how the husband felt about it, though he chuckled at the time.

Btw, not that I know you at all except from your posts, but what he said about acting, and learning from watching himself and working to improve his acting, and learning to act from a motivation coming from deep within (second video) - I thought you might enjoy giving this a try sometime. I know it helped me a lot. Acting makes you a better communicator, it makes you more "real".

And besides you would get work in tv commercials like a piece of cake. I've never seen an Asian in an acting class. (Competition varies by race and age.)

Just a thought...

Who is Cheng Long? Whoever he is, he is nowhere near as famous as Bruce Lee.
