If the woman ignores you, then she is likely obsessed in getting a green card. I'm telling you about Filipinas. I'll be fair, in my circle of friends, Filipinas with foreign husbands are generally ok. The guy is not so old and status is not so wealthy and living with his woman here in my country. BUT you really really have to watch out. First, DON'T HOOK UP WITH MARRIED WOMEN!!!!!!!!!! But lots of Americans and British fall for that. They have to shell out thousands of pounds and dollars to lawyers who promise this and that but are slowly milking their money. DIVORCE IS ILLEGAL in the Philippines and in legal separation, the couple can never remarry.

Second, make sure that the Filipina is NOT a bar girl. For obvious reasons and she's likely to carry STDs. Again, she only loves you for the green card. They are cheap. They don't want to earn an honest day's work so they prefer to act like sluts to win your affection--then stab you in the back later on. In fact, a friend made a song about them...

Third, your best bet is to find a Chinese-Filipina who is a career woman. If she's managing a family business, the better. But she might be concerned that she'd be labeled as cheap if she hooked up with an American or European.

Fourth, look at her family. If the family is from middle-middle to upper class, then no problem. How can you tell? Look at the number of people in the family. A sibling or a grandparent or two living with them is okay. But if there are too many people then watch out.

Fifth, ask a Filipina what she thinks about Pinoys. If the criticism is hyperbolic and unfair...then she is likely a very cheap Pinay.

Excellent advice! I did try that with several women - I tell them I am retired and want to settle in their country. I have gotten responses like - i don't want to live in my country because it is very dangerous, i was planning on setting up a business in the US, and so forth. The women who are advertising on English language sites obviously want to come to the US.

I don't know specifically about the Philippines. But generally, I believe perceived value of the US green card / citizenship is higher over-rated by Americans. From what I've seen, gold diggers from poorer countries these days are much more concerned with snagging a wealthy man or milking a guy dry. If you're a poor American and all you have to offer is a path to a US green card / citizenship, you may find it tough to compete with guys who have more cash for such girls. Not a bad thing though since gold diggers are surely a liability in the longer term.

In countries like Thailand, Brazil, or China, many girls prefer to stay put. Your passport doesn't mean much to them. All else equal, the richer guy who says he wants to live in her country long term will have a much better chance than a poorer guy who says he wants to take her to America. People need to learn the US is not what it once was. Major cashflow and assets are what give you prestige, status and make you an attractive marriage prospect. A US passport alone just doesn't cut-it anymore.

So you see, the US visa is still considered useful by many women all over the world.

Well Colombia has gotten richer over the last decade relative to the States. Property and equity market were record performers for a few years last decade as perceived political risk fell substantially. And the US$ has lost ground against the Colombian Peso. So the economic gap has narrowed somewhat. Perhaps its even a bit safer as well. But Colombia is still an extremely unstable and dangerous country to live long term. Street crime, vendetta violence, and civil war related kidnappings are still commonplace. If you make someone angry enough, they can kill you with virtual impunity or have it done very cheaply. For those reasons alone, a lot of people would like to get out. And Colombians tend to be very entrepreneurial too. So in that sense, the US is a good place for them.

But girls from poorer countries which are more stable and/or less violent may not be so impressed by your passport if you don't also have a lot of disposable cash. The countries I mentioned before - Thailand, Brazil, or China - are 3 examples where I think this applies. But yes, there's still a lot of dirt poor countries out there where some girls will be motivated by the US green card prospect. I just don't think its anything like it used to be.

But the women who put their pictures on English language websites are going to be the ones who want to go to the US. And American men will most likely always be bumping into the ones who want to go to America, unless they actually live in the country and somehow break into the society to meet regular women. Another option may be to use the websites that the people in the country use to meet each other in their native language. If you are the gringo outsider, its not easy to break in.
