The idiotic movie "Borat" was just another death throe of a dying civilization trying to bolster itself by making fun of a country that is not on the radar and is not among protected species. It was filmed in a poor Gypsy village in Romania.

Kazakhstan is a rich oil state. Half the people are Mongolian-looking and half are different Euros- mainly Russians but also Ukrainians and Germans.

As other Soviet Republics, they tried to get rid of the Russian language but couldn't. Often in Dubai I would see their flight attendants- tall Asian girls speaking Russian among themselves.

Besides Kazakstan I heard Uzbekistan gets good reviews as a new single man's gem too. If you think about it a few of the more prosperous -Stan countries are basically nations made up of a large amount of Eurasians which can be the hottest admixture. It seems that Brits and other euros have largely ruined places like Poland and Estonia. So maybe the -Stan's are the new hunting grounds.

As a tourist it's OK but you need a job to stay there for a long time.

I read somewhere (maybe another HA thread?) that Kyrgyzstan is very easy. Fly in visa-free*, then extend while there. Very friendly, very flexible, very easy.

(*You may need transit visas for Russia and Kazakhstan to get there, though. Check with travel agent!)

Kirgistan, damn. After some 1,5 month on seeing this chick in the park doing sport I approached her yesterday.
