Why they fall for the scams?

There are scammers in the West, too, so why do so many Western men fall for the scams in the Philippines?
Because scams in the West are more of white collar type: they have to do with time shares, selling some worthless land, some stock and investment bs, some high interest deposits, or FOREX that go bust, etc. They involve some pretty decent sums of money, too.
So, a Western man will usually not fall for those as he's often been taught that those are usually scams.
In the PH, they are very basic and simple and are more blue collar. They get you with their brazen simplicity.
The scams mostly have to do with faking tragedies, emergencies and necessities in the most basic events of daily life. "I need money for school uniform, my son needs to go to the dentist, I need to pay rent, pay for my mother's funeral, I have no change, I forgot to turn on the meter, I lost my cellphone, can I borrow some money, etc."
And they involve relatively small sums of money.
Most Westerners have no experience with those and could not imagine how a person would fake own death to ask her son to call you to ask you to send $20 for the flowers for the funeral! I mean, the nerve!
It's way too insolent and too simple and even insulting to one's intelligence.
This is why people fall for those daily.
