Yes, recently there was a massive crackdown in Dongguan and Shenzhen--regarding prostitutes in spa's, massage places, hotels and street walkers. It's not safe to go for any kind of P4P right now in China. I would recommend waiting at least a few months to pass by, before engaging in P4P again in China.

I checked out Donguan once about 3 years ago. Made an extended stop when I was going from Shenzhen to Guangzhou.

I've read about the KTVs there but never tried one out. However, I stayed on the main strip in Changpin where there are lots of so-called BBS shops. The hotels on that strip are decent with everything you need yet very cheap, great value for money. There are some decent low cost Chinese restaurants. And there are a lot of good massages available for again very low prices (body, feet, or combo, naughty or nice lol).

But the highlight of course are the BBS joints. You get approached by mommies or who take u into adjacent allies and into corridors of monolithic buildings. When you get to the room, there's usually around 10-20 girls just sitting around messing with their phones, chatting, playing cards, etc. The girls all look very young, fresh off the farm types. But on the surface anyway, they seem to receive decent treatment and are not forced to do things they don't want. I believe they are fee to join and quit as they or their families like. If anyone knows better, please correct me here. I was told the KTV girls tend to be more sophisticated, beautiful, tall, and of course expensive lol.

The patrons you see around there are almost all Chinese dudes from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and an occasional overseas Chinese from a western country. I don't think I saw even one westerner when I was there and everything is done in either Mandarin (in most cases) or Canto. A lot of the guys were 20 somethings but there were a good percentage of older to much older guys too. They seem to allow guys to come in, hang around, and kick the tires a bit. But of course mommy will be giving the sales pitch and trying them to take someone right away. I was told they do not encourage (or perhaps even allow) local mainland guys in at least some of those shops.

You know, China is a serious place with an acute gender imbalance. The guys work hard and and often have dull lives. It really seems a shame that places like this where they can let off steam and live a bit are being restricted and shut down. I hope in this case, the crackdown is temporary and things will come fully back to life in a few weeks to months, just as they were before. We'll see. In the more distant past, China was full of P4P options, some very low cost. But then, even further back, so was South Korea.

John Stossel, "Illegal Everything:"

Making things illegal won't solve anything: on the contrary, it just exacerbates the problem such as the "Drug War," "Prohibition" or Prostitution.

Imagine if the U.S. or China were to fully legalize prostitution--think of all the tax revenues the governments could be receiving, but no...common sense fails to occur. ...
