Thanks. Interesting movie. It almost comes off seeming like an advertisement for old guys to go to the Philippines. For Dale, there doesn't seem to be a downside. It doesn't look like there is much for anyone (either the wife or daughter) to inherit, anyway. Just his house in Canada, which his wife wouldn't be able to get. If his in-laws kill him, then they will be out his pension.
Well, of course, the obvious downside is inviting his daughter to make the documentary, and ending up reviled throughout the world. That, and the risks associated with violating the Philippines' age of consent law.
At least Dale will die happy, surrounded by his new family.

The ironic thing is that, if Dale had met Girly back in British Columbia, there would have been no issue, because Canada's age of consent is set at 16 (previously it was 14).

His daughter seems to have been looking for an excuse to fly off the handle, and she found one. Now, she has denounced her father as an international sex pervert, to the entire world.
Lots of people regard their parents as lofty, super-human, asexual beings, or at least think that their parents should fulfill this fanciful role. Rather like the asexual God the Father of the Catholics. It can be traumatic when we found out that our parents are just people, just like everyone else.

As I've said, the daughter doesn't want to lose her inheritance (i.e, the house). And she resents having a stepmother younger than her and subconsciously resents her father being happy with another woman who is not her mother. That's why she trying to discredit her father and break up the marriage.pandabear wrote:The ironic thing is that, if Dale had met Girly back in British Columbia, there would have been no issue, because Canada's age of consent is set at 16 (previously it was 14).

Many children don't want a stepmother to replace their mother and will do anything to break up the new marriage. Very selfish to deny father's happiness.
Question: How do Filipinos feel about their father (or mother) remarrying? Do they resent their father (or mother) remarrying or feel jealous or fear losing their inheritance?

Vancouver? That's where Will N. Dowd is from! I guess he wasn't featured in the video because he's only about 40. And unsurprisingly, a Western woman made the video, which might be more aptly titled "Grandpa Figures."
If they try to do a doc on me, I think they'd have to title it "Mother Figures."
Rock and Xiongmao have all the details.
But, no 50-year age gaps!

"Well actually, she's not REALLY my daughter. But she does like to call me Daddy... at certain moments..."
This Filipina actress accused another actor of raping her a few months ago to get money out him only it backfired. There was no evidence that a crime was committed so she was thrown in jail with no bail and now faces life in prison. Stay away from Manilla women!

And it's none of her business. I would have told her as much; but he let her make it...(?).davewe wrote:The daughter was not making an objective doc about Fil-Am marriage, she was making a slam piece about her own father..
