For a Japanese man it is easy to go abroad and check out for a foreign wife.

There are daily plenty of airplanes to nearby countries, and airfare is cheap.

In Japan there are no special restrictions about bringing a foreign wife into the country. Spouse visa is not difficult to get, and it is not only the visa, it also contains working permit and national health insurance for the foreign spouse. Not bad. Why not?

There are now many more Japanese men with foreign wives than foreign men with Japanese wives living in Japan, more than 2:1. Especially rural areas are often full with young men, but almost no young Japanese woman is living there - as they prefer to move into cities where the daily life is more comfortable.

So what else can a young Japanese man in rural area do? Either stay alone or look for a foreign wife. Situation is similar bad in fishing villages on smaller islands. Only old couples and a few young men, no young women there.

There is a village in Nagano area well known, deeply located into forest area, where foreign women outnumber local Japanese women 20:1.
