Guidelines for the new expat-only forum

Post by zboy1 »

Winston, we should agree that the new expat-only forum concentrates on matters related to travel, overseas dating and being "Happier Abroad."

Topics such as racism, conspiracy theories, troll posts, or Winston-bashing threads be immediately deleted--and cause for expulsion from this new section of HappierAbroad.

It should be by invitation only; new members cannot join unless they have been on the forum for a month--and posting only good threads. And they have to be overseas, or have a lot of experience living or traveling abroad.

Also, there should a code-of-civility on the expat-only forum, where cursing or mocking other people should not be tolerated.

These are the members that should originally be invited to this new section:

E_Irizzary, Rock, Mr.Peabody, Jester, Momopi, Jackal, Eurobrat, Kai1275, Celery2010, Baoning, MarcosZeitola , Repatriate, Taco, JP, OutWest, Renata, NorthAmericanGuy, Sushiman, Array, Dragon, Hero, SkateboardStephen, Contrarian Expatriate, Grunt, Ladislav, have2Fly, pete98146, Fschmidt,
Xiongmao, Steve55, TheAdventurer, JamaicanInChina, Ghost, davewe, Falcon, ThinkDifferent, MrS, mguy, chanta76, DarkSol, Robert77, onezero4u, magnum, AmericanInMexico, WorldTraveler, newlifeinphilippines, ethan sg, Array9, DiscoProJoe, Cheezeraider, Everdred, AmericanInBangkok.

I included some people that no longer post on HA, but maybe they will change their minds and post again...if they see that the forum has created an expats-only forum, where only expats or experienced world travelers can post there?

I'm sure I'm leaving out some members: so please respond if you think you deserve to be invited, or you think someone should join. And tell us why?

To Rock, Repatriate, Grunt, MrS.--when posting on this section of the forum, please refrain from attacks on Winston. Also, to everyone else, please let's respect each other when posting there...

To Taco: no conspiracy-related threads on this section, please.

To Array, SkateboardStephen, Ladislav, Contrarian Expatriate and also to me (hahaha, see I can criticize myself sometimes...) no race-related threads in the expat-only forum.

The only question is: should non-members be able to view the threads created on the expats-only forum or not? They won't be able to post anything, but should they be able to view it?

I am not sure why I didn't make the shortlist, but feel free to add me if you think I am a fit.

Yes, I forgot about you, publicduende, but please...refrain from attacks on other members in the new section. Okay?

I no longer post in the forum, but I would like to join this new section (if it will truly be free of racism, hostility, endless arguments and insults). I have experience living abroad (lived in Peru for 6 years) and have been a member longer than a month. This forum should have been created a long time ago IMHO. Make it like the RooshV forum, but with a focus on living and dating abroad instead of PUA.

Assuming the new forum will host a more moderate and balanced kind of discussion and I won't be subjected to ad-personam attacks then yes, you will never hear me getting back at them.

Sounds good. I did a stint in Japan and will be in China a few days from now. Not sure if I'll have much to post (nor was I invited), but I would at least like to read some of the topics.

Zboy,
That's a good list of members. And a good idea. Maybe some former members will come back after they see that there is a new board that will be troll free, racist free and attack free. Perhaps you can PM some of the former members to tell them about it?

But I'm not sure Repatriate will be able to hold his tongue though. He has a very vulgar tongue that lacks any tact at all. It's hard to imagine him acting with civility and tact. We will see though. We can give him a trial membership there, and if he can't resist making vulgar insults and remarks, he can be removed from it later.

Taco is obsessed with gloom and doom conspiracies. I don't know if he can resist posting topics on that there. But we can give him a try too.

What should we call the board? How about:

"Expat Living - Only Expats with civil behavior allowed"

As far as whether to make the board private or public, I would vote on making it public, so that its content will be visible to search engines and attract like minded people to the forum. And also, others here can benefit from reading it too, even if they aren't members. Perhaps it will even motivate some members here with bad behavior to change so they can become a member?

What do you think?

I honestly would really consider being more active posting in this new section. Reason why I drifted away from here mostly was because of the trolls.

Okay, then...I invite chibolo, WillNDowd, Starchild5 and KokujinKrusader to the new section. Anyone else think they deserve a chance to be included in this new board?

BTW, what's the name of the guy who was living in Hong Kong and posting pictures of the girls he was dating there? I'd like to invite him too...I just forgot his name. ...

I am flattered to be included and think this will be a great and troll-free sub forum populated only by those who actually know what they are talking about. ;)

Great idea!

You can find him by looking for his threads. Type in "Hong Kong" in the Google search box at the top.

What should the title of this board be? How about: "Expat Living - Restricted. By Invitation Only. Civil Behavior Only."

Zboy, if you are going to be in charge of this board, and in charge of adding and removing members to it, I will have to make you an Admin here, which means you will have access to the Admin Control Panel. I think I can trust you with that. I can explain to you by PM how to add and remove members to a group.

Also, if it's too much trouble for you to mod both the Expat Living board, and the rest of the forum, we can find other moderators to mod the rest of the forum.

How about Fschmidt? I've met him and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Would he be a good moderator?

Hey I got a bold idea that will cause a racket here, and titillate people with warped humor like Rock. LOL

How about we call this new board, "The Elite Expats Club"? LOL Or "The VIP Club"? LOL

That way, it will connotate that all those accepted into it are "elites" while the rest that are not, are lower class. Wouldn't that be a great way to introduce class warfare onto this forum, kind of like how the Illuminati divide the population by class and status?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! ROTFL!!!

Oh and if we make the board unviewable to the public and non-members, then all the non-members will be itching to know what's being posted in there. That will create great curiosity and envy! LOL

Muahahahahahaha!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

What do you think? What a wonderful way to incite division and controversy here huh? What an awesome idea huh? LOL

Fschmidt? Yeah, he's a good person but one problem with him is that he will take a very 'hands-off' approach to moderating, meaning he won't really punish anybody or take a really hard stance, since he's against moderators and very pro-free speech--even when it means protecting trolls and the like...

It's up to you if you want that...but the good thing with the new expat forum will be, I'll spend most of my time there from now on, and not on the regular board. So whatever sh*tstorm that goes on the regular board, I won't care as much. ...

I also suggest we do what RooshV does, in that every month, the members decide whether anyone is worthy to be included in the new forum. Also, 'we' decide if someone is acting-up and needs to be kicked-out. That way, you have order and semblance on the expat forum.
