This is it...this is the beginning of why females have no interest in talking to random men on the street and in public. These telephone chat lines gave women the ability to access men whenever they wanted to, and I imagine the chat lines were organized by location, by age, interests, etc. like how chat rooms on AOL were later in the 90's. I imagine the number of men a female could reach using these lines was very high, so after a few days, the female would develop an expectation of being able to reach a man who was at least 6 feet tall, had a car, a job, a house, etc. And she could do this in the comfort of her own home. I imagine she could listen to recorded messages of men without even having to speak herself...just like perusing online dating profiles, but in an audio-only format. This is online dating before online dating existed! This is why Winston says female appreciation of men started to decline somewhere in the mid 80's to '90!
