He should have just kept the money in the bank. Why keep cash at home?-- if it's not the robbers, it's the cops who'd take it.

All my money is spread out among several accounts, and I also use credit cards a lot and keep my limits high.

The implication is that money is different than any other property.

No one ever suggests that a car owner leave it parked at the dealership.
When was the last time you heard
"Why leave something that valuable just laying around in your driveway?"

Not everyone trusts banks (with good reason).
