I know we all want to live abroad but maybe the problem is the women in your state and not just in America. I live in the suburbs of Dallas, TX where everybody drives and life is about working and consuming. It is depressing as hell and not a place to be young and single.

But sometimes I go to California to see my father and the change of scenery makes a bit of difference. I know a lot of people hate California but at least Longbeach is close to the ocean and being near water is good for me. There are basically more exotic people in California, more diversity.

Not all of us can afford to buy a house in Panama or Costa Rica.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the grass ain't any greener in California. I know people who used to live in California and now live in Dallas, Austin and Houston. They are much happier in Texas.

Not everyone can afford a house in California either. A small two-bedroom house in Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Hermosa Beach and Santa Monica is more than $500K. Beachfront property can easily top more than $1M.

California has among the highest sales, property and income tax rates. Gas and food is more expensive than any other states.

The state is also one of the most unfriendly to do business than any other state. It isn't any wonder why many companies are relocating out of California, taking jobs with them.

The state is almost bankrupt and is scrambling to raise revenue; sales, income, property taxes and "fees" are always rising.

Southern California is essentially a third world country, like Mexico. It's sometimes called "Calimexico" or "Mexifornia". If you want to experience Latin America, go to Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. Other areas in Los Angeles have Japanese, Chinese, Filipino and Vietnamese population. There's also a large Middle Eastern population too. Just beware that they are now highly westernized, entitled and feminized.

California women are among the worst; The so-called "Valley Girls" are among the most immature, self-centered, selfish and feminist I've ever seen.

About the only positive thing about Southern California is the weather and the proximity to beach, desert and mountains. Can't tell you anything about Northern California, but my friends in Sacramento says it's nice there and the climate is mild.

The only reason I'm still here is because of employment and parental care; It's only a matter of time before the company relocates to another state or when my parents die or when I retire, whichever comes first. No doubt I'll retire and move out of California to another state. Can't say where yet.

An alternate is Panama or Belize.

How is Ensenada compared to the Philippines for retirement?

I have often thought about moving to a state where at least the weather would be better (like Florida). Perhaps the women throughout all of America are the same, I wish there were some states where the women were better dating material than where I live (Illinois).

Years ago, the Florida Panhandle aka Redneck Riviera, around Destin or Pensacola I think, had great weather, beautiful beaches, Alabama girls in shorts, and a relaxed attitude plus low cost and great food.

If I was in the U.S. and had no family ties anywhere, that's where I would head.

Thanks for the info Jester, I will look into that location. I know it's cheap to live in the Florida panhandle area, compared to Miami or Orlando.

These winters in the Midwest are absolutely brutal. This year we had 82 inches of snow (normally we get 37 inches). It was the third snowiest winter and third coldest winter in Chicago's history!

Hell, on April 14 we got two inches of snow to bring our official total to 82 inches!

But Ensenada ROCKS. Beaches, biking, horses, quads, bars, scenery, weather, gringo colonies, relaxed Mexican people. Almost first-world. No aggressive beggars, no gringo pricing, no cheats, no serious crime.

The reason to go the Phil's, in my opinion, would be that it's easier for an older guy to get a young bride.

Plus many speak English there. Not so here in Ensenada.

But you can LEARN Spanish, and if you DO get a young bride, there is no "shaming" in Mexico.

Of course if I were actually retired, and had no further ambitions, and had no family to worry about in North America, I would head to the Phils. More relaxed, even friendlier, even more traditional values, more available young women. Slam dunk.

I just personally see Mexico as a better place to sharpen up, get fit, get rich, import sons and siblings, build a dynasty, have a future. Right now that's how I see it.

We'll see. Going to give it another year here.

Much of what you say is true, Halwick and maybe I would see those things after spending six months in California but right now I feel stuck in the Dallas area. Have you ever been trapped in a rut and appreciate the change of scenery in a new place? That is Cali because at least in Cali I can swim at the beaches in the hot summers. In Arlington, we have a lot of water we can't swim in.

The Valley Girls are some of the most vacuous people I have ever met. The nicest girl I met in Longbeach was from West Africa. One person I met was a lesbian that took a shine to me because I had no previously conceived notions about her being a lesbian. She said she wanted to leave the United States too and go to Great Britain or Germany.

f**k, I hate Dallas AND California. In fact, if theres two places I never got along with the people, its deep Texas and California. But moving maybe to another state other than California may be a good idea. Problem is basically the whole country seems to suck at the moment. But I think for some reason things haven't gotten as bad in the state of Arkansas. Thats why I'm here now. Hot Springs, AR is probably the best place Ive seen in the last 7 or so years. And I travel the states for a living. Its more or less still somewhat like the 90s in certain areas of Arkansas.
