American Vacation Rant

Post by NorthAmericanguy »

I'm often amazed at how many Americans think that traveling out of the U.S. must be expensive. Americans seem to think that just because you travel far, the distance alone must mean that the trip will cost a fortune so people think they will get a better deal by going on vacation within the United States.

So case it point, right now, I live on the East Coast and people here generally go to the Poconos, Cape May, or Wildwood when they want to go on, as they say, "vacay".

Did any of these people do the math? The only big expense is the airline ticket, but once you get that out of the way, and considering that you're traveling to a country that is affordable like Thailand, the rest of the vacation is affordable for the average Westerner.

And all the people who complain about the cost of a passport! My god, it's good for 10 years and it has other benefits other then just using it to travel. For example, a few months ago my drivers licence expired, but I was still able to cash checks and take care of business because I had my passport which is considered another form of identification for the banks.

At the end of the day though, going on vacation within America is BORING and mindless. Why? Because all the states have the same s*** but with slightly different variations because America is run by corporations! There is no real ancient culture here, or nothing really different from the same boring politically correct day to day life.

I remember when I was younger all my friends dreaded to go on their family vacations to the common American tourist spots such as the Grand Canyon simply because it was boring and there was NOTHING TO DO!

Oh wow, let's all just sit in a car for 4 days just to reach a destination that has a big hole in the ground (Grand Canyon). Seriously? I mean, that's something only a geologist would be interested in, but yet, the Grand Canyon is touted as part of American culture when oddly the Grand Canyon was here long before America was even founded as a nation.

And all the stereotypical American family vacation spots are the worse.... OMG! Nothing but screaming kids, fat ball busting B*** running around shouting orders at everybody, and a bunch of sissified, effeminate, de-balled married men who look so tired and miserable it's not even funny.

No way! I'm so glad I never had kids and avoided the simple mindless American family life.....

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

What kind of vacation would you choose?

This is so fu¢king true!!!!! Nothing but screaming kids, fat manly ¢unt wives, and effeminate de-balled married manginas!! What's a single man to do when he can't go to any venue in the States and just enjoy a goddamn vacation?? And I second that vacationing in the States is way more expensive than in a foreign country. A "cheap" hotel here will generally cost you just under $50.00 per night. Fu¢k that nonsense! $50.00 will get you AT LEAST four nights in a cheap hotel if you were to stay in Asia or Latin America. The States are absolutely a joke for the frugal-minded.

Great topic! Jeez, I even hate going to Vegas! Once you've been to a few cool places overseas, nothing in USA compares.

I remember sitting on a beach in Koh Samui Thailand and I was surrounded by Germans, Italians, Swedes and Brits. Who for the most part was absent? Americans. We are the worst travelers on earth hands down!

+1 - I never went to Disneyland until I was 37 & I couldn't even stay the whole day. I ran out to a Ihop restaurant across the road for a cheap lunch & avoided paying $25 inside.

Haha. Was Disneyland "fun for all ages" like they claim? :)

Vacationing in Mexico is a lot better since you can actually meet the locals and get invited to their houses to hang out with them and eat good food. I always laugh at the Americans who come to Mexico and only go to tourist spots to stay in sanitized resorts; my idea of a vacation is going to some random part of Mexico and meeting the locals; in other words, the human interaction. This is not possible in the United States where people are not willing to meet new people; if you go on vacation in the United States the people you go with will be your only human interaction for the entire length of the trip.

How true that is! In America talking to strangers is taboo, so the only people you talk to are people that you already know. God forbid people in the US talk to strangers once in a while!

In America, a lot of people don't even talk to their neighbors. I heard it's the same way in other english speaking countries.

Indeed.

Vacationing in America can be quite a drag.
