Is What We are Living In Man's Natural State?
Is this the natural state of the world? Is this what we were meant to be? What is the natural state of the world? I guess I was thinking about this, and it occured to me that we came from nature, bare naked, and came to this, even after we were closer to nature, uncomplicated by man's complications, yet managed to end up like this. So I guess my question is that is there such thing as a natrual state for humans, or is this natural, and how it was supposed to be (excluding the original intent of God and such). Or is there a superman part of man?

That's a big question. I wonder about that sometimes too. The alternative researchers say no. Our evolution was hijacked somewhere along the way. Our spirituality and consciousness were suppressed, and we were conditioned to live in fear and be obedient to live as slaves.
Civilization is obviously artificial, not natural, as it does not fit with the rest of nature. Money, on which this world runs, is also artificial. So it is ironic that we are all enslaved to it. It does seem that something interfered with our development and hijacked it.
A guy I listen to named Jay Weidner said that our natural state is like that of the Native Americans - we are natural hunter/gatherers who live in harmony with nature and enjoy fellowship with others in a communal setting. That is our optimum state of happiness and fulfillment.
But then again, what's normal and natural depends on your point of view too. Some would say that civilization and all its benefits and negative effects are a natural part of evolution and advancement.

Of course it isn't natural. Morality is restraint on base nature. I've said it before, man's nature is to be socialistic. That's how productive families operate. But of course Capitalism is more humanist for an entire nation's citizens to achieve greater wealth. So the key isn't to say we should all be living in tribes as cavemen did, which is ultimately what socialism leads to. Nor should we be corporate drone robots only concerned with productivity, which is what happens when you go too far into capitalism. We shouldn't indulge instincts too much, but we shouldn't entirely suppress them on an altar of reason either. The key is balance.
And I learned all that from a libertarian.
Socialism leads to starvation and Capitalism leads to obesity. What's the healthy way of living?

Good point. It's not just civilization that's unnatural, but people are as well. We don't fit into the rest of the species on Earth and don't really have a natural place. Our evolution and spontaneous intelligence makes no sense. And our DNA isn't like the rest of the animal kingdom. Most of our DNA is junk DNA, which animals don't have. And we have unknown DNA that doesn't exist in the rest of the animal and plant kingdom. There is also no real explanation for why we can think and ponder, and not just live to "eat, survive, reproduce" like the rest of the animal kingdom.Cornfed wrote:Presumably hunter-gathering is the natural state. Although most of the ancient histories essentially say that we were artificially genetically engineered by some race of "gods", so we have no natural state, and hence life has a tendency towards sucking for most people.
All of this taken together indicates that we did not naturally evolve, but that someone or something had a hand in it, or intervened in other words.

Old civilizations like the Mayan, Inca, Aztec, Buddhist & Vedic Hindus all have a similar theory that we're pure energy like electricity trapped in bodies just so we can survive on this planet & our main goal is to get back to our natural state which isn't matter but energy then we'll be limitless & free like electricity. Just as we use a car to travel in, our material bodies are like our vehicles here on earth.Winston wrote:Good point. It's not just civilization that's unnatural, but people are as well. What if we are indeed Alien to Earth & we've been cast away, lost or imprisoned here... because life here does seem like a struggle, like entrapment & like imprisonment at times (average 9-5 job/routine life) ... what if ??

I don't think there is only one "true" nature of humans. That's pretty black and white thinking. Culture and environment play more of a role in man's "nature" than we give it credit for.zacb wrote:Is this the natural state of the world? Is this what we were meant to be? Consider also that ancient man did not use iphones, drive cars or sit in office cubicles behind desks for 8 hours a day. It is certainly not the "natural state" in those terms.
Sometimes though, I wonder what would happen if you took an ancient Greek or Roman, or even a hunter gatherer, and whisked him away from his life and placed him in modern day America. What would his reaction be?
