Femicide in Latin America

I follow Colombian news and of course Mexican news often makes it up to the US. I am noticing either a trend or a long historical problem that hasn't been dealt with. Some Latin American countries have a problem of killing women indiscriminately. The "femicide" seems to be a small plague.

I am asking HA if you have heard of this or know anything about it? What the hell is going on?

Same in Spain as well. The highest rate of femicide (I think that is the term...) in Western Europe and probably in the first world.
