South Korea cracks down on international marriages

Imagine if the IMBRA had required this? If the feminists had gotten this into law it would have killed off a large percentage of international marriages among US citizens

The crackdown on mail-order brides (these days, “e-mailâ€￾ or “internet brokeredâ€￾ would be more accurate) will require resident-by-marriage visa applicants to pass a Korean language test and prove they made at least 14.8 million won ($13,750) in income in the past year. The new rules are intended to “normalize the abnormal interracial marriages in which men and women who cannot even have a conversation tie the knot,â€￾ the South Korean Justice Ministry said.

That should pretty much finish off the industry because the bride would have to have a relatively high income for the region and it is doubtful whether a lot of people would bother to learn Korean and go to Korea if they were already middle class. Presumably the reason the industry was already in decline is that most young Korean men are too poor to import even a third world bride, just like their Western counterparts. Since Korean men have been largely made redundant by automation and outsourcing while Korean females still have their secretarial and corporate whore-type jobs, this seems likely to mean involuntary celibacy for the men. The Koreans really have made remarkable progress from poverty stricken third world country to rich industrial country to post-industrial shithole, all in little more that a generation.

What a load of crap. The South Korean government is basically saying you will stick to the miserable script we have written for you and if you don't like it tough cookies. Sounds like this is motivated partly by xenophobia and partly by local feminists who are probably alarmed by that uptick in foreign marriages.

I wonder if we will see a diaspora of Korean males or a similar phenomenon to what is going on in Japan right now.
