A Los Angeles teenager convicted of rape in 2002 has been cleared after his "victim" admitted lying.

Brian Banks was sentenced to ten years in prison for raping Wanetta Gibson when he was 16 years-old. He entered a 'no contest plea' and served five years.

Soon after he was released in 2007, Ms Gibson contacted him on facebook with the words "let bygones be bygones". She admitted he was innocent but was concerned she would have to pay back the $1.5m the school gave her in damages at the time.

Mr Banks agreed to meet her and videotaped her with the help of the California Innocence Project.

He gave BBC Radio 5 live Up All Night's Rhod Sharp his first international interview along with his lawyer Justin Brooks."

What is unusual is she came out and told the truth. I am unsure why she decided to come clean. That is something I would really like to know the answer on. She has blown through the settlement money and is now on welfare. It does not seem like she even understands what she did was wrong. It also seems like she has no fear of any accountability for her actions. Women like this are not unusual they have little moral conviction and are adept at evading accountability and responsibility for their actions.

The guy who's life was destroyed sure wont get $1.5 million.

I would speculate the reason she contacted him she was hoping things could restart, she needs financial support for her two bastard kids. Spent her teenage years and early twenties f***ing around a lot and partying which is typical for a girl like herself. Welfare has a limited time here in California and many of the state programs are getting cut or axed. Its hard to make money. Even strippers can't make it. That is the likely reason she confessed the truth to him, she was fishing for a guy to support her. It would be hard for him to support her with the sex crime thing on him so that's why she did it.

The usual reason women make rape charges is out of fear of getting caught, she was f***ing so many guys she could not keep track and maybe though she was pregnant, so she accused the next guy of rape to clear her of any wrong doing. Some women also do it to get sympathy points. Another reason is revenge which I think is unlikely in this case. This might go something like she got dump by a hustler, he tricked her into thinking he was rich and she had a shot at all that money. Basically she got dumped, she's pissed and lies to f**k him over, this happens all the time.

Women like Wanetta Gibson have a tremendous entitlement mentality, she sees much and shares little. Totally amoral, lazy and very realistic for whatever is happening at the moment yet totally incapable of planning for the future or translating the consequences of her current actions into the future. The truth is as a teenager she accurately understand her situation. She could make those accusations with zero fear of consequences.

The real truth women like her destroy guys with false rape charge all the time. Women will have zero problem with doing this and it is nothing new.

The Salem witch trial of 1692, ground zero for all that was three teenage girls they did all the false accusing that sent many to there deaths. So much is focused on there beliefs, which seem cooky by today's standards, but that was at a time just prior to the scientific revolution taking hold, there beliefs were not unusual. By the circumstances around them these beliefs seem reasonable at the time. The strange reality is the young girls were the ones by behavior were most like "witches" yet they were never held accountable for there actions.
