how do i sum up my experience from being in washington, d.c.. yesterday? i share this w/great trepidation, knowing some of you are already triggered merely by my presence there. but these are my own observations. i’ve purposely seen almost no news but have been told from others what the general storyline presented is.

it was a roller coaster day, starting w/tremendous highs and ending w/depressing lows, including anger.

my goal for the trip was prayer for the nation, and certainly that happened. it’s hard not to be praying at this time in our history - esp. in the place where history was being made.

first the good.

by God’s wonderful favor, me and my friend jeff sweeney, who’d just driven up from nashville, were seated in the v.i.p. section to hear the president speak, only ten rows from the stage directly in the middle. my close proximity meant that friends in australia saw me on tv. sitting nearby were several recognizable faces from the news.

the atmosphere was electric, and waiting on the president to come to the stage had the feeling of a high school homecoming football game and a fourth of july concert at the state fair all rolled into one.

seeing the president in person had powerful imagery, w/the white house in the distance behind the stage and the washington monument in the distance behind us. no one could count the sea of humanity present, but it most likely surpassed a million. (i’ve long since discarded media estimates of crowd sizes, where the inflated or deflated numbers reflect their biases rather than reality.)

for over an hour, he laid out specific evidence from the contested states showing unprecedented and widespread fraud. i recorded his whole speech and will transcribe the stats for anyone interested. sadly, too many have already bo’t the lie from some outlets that there was no fraud whatsoever and won’t even look at this evidence.

this was c l e a r l y a stolen election.

so many conversations w/folks were uplifting and inspiring, hearing stories of their lives and journeys - folks from all across the country. to me, it felt like a giant family reunion w/cool relatives i’d never met. the camaraderie was unforgettable.

prior to entering at the security checkpoint, we’d learned that we couldn’t bring our backpacks into the field. so there was a frantic emptying of bags and trash cans piled to overflowing w/all the discarded stuff. it seemed like a small price to pay for getting to have choice seats on this of all days. afterwards, all our bags were spread out on the grass and we were able to retrieve what was ours after the police had loaded up their equipment and opened up the area.

waiting for my bag caused me to be only halfway up pennsylvania avenue when perhaps twelve police cars raced by, w/lights flashing and sirens blaring. as i got closer i heard more accounts of what had happened.

the march up the streets was entirely peaceful. as one friend put it, it was more like a stroll than a march. no rioting. no raided buildings along the way. no looting. no burning of buildings or overturned cars. no angry mob w/torches looking for the beast. everyone was simply walking to the capitol to hear a slate of speakers at a rally that was to have started @ 1:00pm - the time when the electoral college voting was taking place inside by congress.

the bad.

approaching the west side of the capitol bldg. - the side where the land slopes up and where inaugurations usually happen, i saw the throngs all around. the events unfolding inside kept the attention of the crowd, waiting to find out what was really going on. everyone was peaceful, if not a bit apprehensive. i repeat, everyone outside was peaceful. occasionally, some would relay news reports on their handheld megaphone. one announced that state houses in georgia and kansas had also been infiltrated, tho i’ve not heard corroboration of this. only a handful in the crowd cheered at the news while most just shook their heads in disbelief.

the best way to describe my own feelings and the sense of the crowd was that someone had just hit us in the stomach and knocked the breath out of us. how could such an exuberant morning have been so quickly marred by tragedy? it’s like what my parents experienced after their wedding when the flower girl from their wedding died in a motorcycle accident after leaving the church.

one sign seemed to aptly capture this moment in history for america. it read: 'the storm has begun.' of course, this sign was created prior to the break-in. i believe we're fast approaching the tipping point as a nation.

let me pause here and interject. it is apparent from many of your comments that some of you have already believed the media’s narrative of what happened. would you like to hear other details the media most likely isn’t telling you, or are you programmed to reject any info. contrary to what you’ve already concluded is the true story? if you don’t wish to be challenged, then perhaps you should read no further. in short, your belief in my trustworthiness is on the line.

it amazed me how i sovereignly was placed either w/in earshot or in direct conversations w/folks who had firsthand knowledge of events themselves. hearing for myself, seeing videos they’d made on their phone as well as what i saw was powerful.

so what have you believed, that the breaching of the capitol was by trump supporters hellbent on disrupting democracy? to the best of my knowledge and observation, here’s what really happened.

before coming into the city, my high school buddy who’s graciously hosting me in his townhouse gave me a somber warning. he ominously said that the police in d.c. would not necessarily be your friends or supportive of what was going on. after all that transpired, i remembered his words.

at one point when the crowds were arriving to the capitol bldg., several police cars escorted five rented white transit vans up to near the bldg. emerging from the vans were antifa members. some were wearing maga hats. a modus operandi for antifa is to disguise themselves as one of whatever group they wished to infiltrate. this tactic was employed several times by them last year during blm protests across the country, causing blm protesters to say of the rioters, “they're not us!"

barricades at ground level had been placed in the periphery all around the capitol. the exception was the center of the west side of the bldg. this is the side where the land slopes down from the capitol towards the nat'l mall. the lower landing was bracketed by tall scaffolding on each side of a portico that had been erected for an upcoming but now cancelled inauguration ceremony. for today, this was to have been the scene of a rally starting @ 1:00pm - the time when the joint session of congress was meeting to decide on the electoral college.

at one point, visible from far away, a giant american flag was unfurled from the top of one side of the scaffolding. watching this brought cheers from the crowd. spontaneous singing of the nat'l anthem broke out. in many places folks were praying.

these antifa merged into the crowd. some of them then climbed up the inside of the scaffolding to a higher level landing around the building. some trump supporters followed them up the scaffolding. in another video i saw, many trump supporters who had already gotten to that level. when they saw the ones trying to hammer open the glass, they shouted, ‘that’s antifa!,’ and tried to stop them from breaking in. (i encourage you to watch the live feed of darin southam from fb last nite. he was up there and his comments are powerful.)

but some successfully broke in through the windows, after which they opened some doors to the outside that had been locked. then - and again, i’ve seen the videos myself - the police were the ones who opened the barricades to allow a flow of perhaps 2-300 folks into the building. were they antifa or trump folks? i can't say for certain. but once they got inside, this is when the chaos ensued. this had the markings of a well-coordinated event involving the police.

so let me restate this - it was antifa, not trump supporters who first broke into the building. rather than supporting one party or another, antifa's goal is disruption of peace and anarchy. mission accomplished.

the video i saw of trump supporters from one who had gotten inside the bldg. did not show bloodthirsty crazy folks, like some storming the bastille crowd. they were at the door of the house chambers, wanting in, for certain. but not to tear down the place. it was obvious, the fringe crazies among them were dry timbers for the crowd wanting to bring fire.

knowing now for certain that this was a stolen election, the ~74 million americans who voted for trump are understandably angry about it. this election fraud followed four years of relentless attacks on trump. and yes, they would love to have been able to talk directly to their elected representatives about their frustration over the election. but breaking in and causing destruction was not indicative by any stretch of the vast, vast majority of all trump supporters.

was there a fringe element of crazies there? sure, just like w/any mass of people this size. but as often happens, it is the tiny fringe that often becomes the symbol for the group. remember, there were hundreds of thousands of folks peacefully around the capitol bldg. if you generalize trump supporters as x, y and z, then you have branded me w/them. i firmly believe that 99.99% of the trump supporters present love america and hated the breaking in as much as any american did.

i also spoke w/someone who had had to drag the woman who’d died of a heart attack out to the emergency crews. he said she’d died from having been trampled to death. an autopsy would have to verify that. the other person shot was a woman wearing a maga hat. i don’t know which group she was truly a part of, but i heard that ashe was unarmed.

just below the giant flag, i met a group of three folks who’d just blown their shofar. after talking w/them, we decided to pray together. holding hands and after only praying a moment or two, one of the ladies quickly pulled her scarf up over her eyes and started rushing away. immediately i, too, had to cover my face, as tear gas began wafting through the area and into my eyes, nose and mouth. i joined the scores of folks rushing away from this. not a bucket list item, but hoping to never experience this again.

i met back up w/jeff and we decided to start walking back to the metro station, since the mayor had put out a 6:00pm curfew. but just before leaving the bldg., we saw the first of several tear gas ‘bombs’ go off to push the crowds back. then we heard three more as we got further away.

at the base of the stairs in front of the reflecting pool was a group of folks worshipping to a lauren daigle song. many who walked by would lift their arms in worship or stop to pray for a bit. this peace being around them was the first i'd felt for several hours.

pn the metro leaving, my phone buzzed with an alert that not only had the d.c. mayor called for a 6pm curfew, but also had gov. northam called one for two virginia counties adjacent d.c.

finally meeting up w/my high school friend and going out to dinner, a lady came to our table after overhearing me mention having had sebastian gorka walk past me near the stage that morning. this woman and her husband were famous lawyers/former district attorney - regulars on tv. she was unwilling to hear us speak and her comments were rude and inflammatory - a fitting end to the drama of the day and a precursor of some of the comments i read last nite.

so what to make of it all?

one goal of the tragic killing was to discredit the president even more. mission accomplished, as he was blamed for all that happened. on all the media platforms, his appeals for peace were silenced while voices accusing him of the violence were highlighted and given prominence.

i learned much today.

i learned how truly sinister the enemy of our souls is and how entrenched are his henchmen. i became even more keenly aware of the spiritual battle for this nation. i gained new revelation of what the 'pattern of this world's thinking' looks like.

i learned how bionically fast a narrative can get legs and become de facto truth, regardless of its veracity.

i learned about true friendship and how great my capacity for hurt still is. for some, even my presence there was a deal breaker to friendship.

i learned how deeply i loved my country, bringing me to the point of tears several times. on tuesday nite when i walked all around the capital @ ~7:00pm w/almost no one present, i realized what a great privilege i'd been given to intercede for america. it seemed as if God was giving me the nation as my personal inheritance. looking up to the capitol bldg.'s american flag fluttering in the night sky had me knocking on heaven's door.

i learned that despite crazies on all the fringes, america is still a land of good people. lots and lots of them.

my eyes are not on donald trump or anyone else. my eyes are on the Lover of my Soul, my Savior, Defender and Friend. he is the only source of peace that passes understanding.
