Interesting movie about a dialogue between a black man of faith (Samuel L. Jackson) and white secular atheist (Tommy Lee Jones) about God and belief and whether life is worth living or not, and if suicide should be considered if life becomes unbearable. The whole movie is just them talking and debating these things, so you have to be into these deeper topics to like this film.

Through a chance encounter, two men of opposing ideologies deliberate spiritual, philosophical, and profound matters in a New York City apartment.

Storyline
Two men in an apartment with their opposing beliefs in this play by Cormac McCarthey. The black guy, a former convict who believes in God, just saved the white atheist professor from jumping in front of the express train. He won't let the depressed man leave, without following him, and feel he's in this situation for a reason, decided by God. An intense chamber play about belief or unbelief, and a conversation about what's true and important in life, or not.

They go deep into the psyche of men who fear the trap of marriage and responsibility, which is equivalent to the control of totalitarian government dictatorship from a philosophical standpoint. The comparison is very interesting and revealed in the college lectures of the history teacher protagonist with the split personality.

I’m not sure men fear marriage and responsibility as much as they recognize that it is a raw deal for them in this day and age. If anything, men who want to marry today do so out of an irrational fear of missing out.

As you can see, everyone says this is a masterpiece and takes movies to a whole new level, and that you should see it on the big screen at least twice before you understand it, to get the full immersion experience.
