WTF is up with modern pop music? It's like braindead noise!

WTF is up with modern music? There's no melody, feeling or soul like the music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It's just braindead noise.

Why do young people think such modern music is so cool? What is the appeal or attraction to it? Just because it's new and modern, that automatically means it's cool, even if it's just braindead noise? What kind of logic is that?

The sounds from modern music are no different than the noise from a chainsaw, power drill, or vacuum. So why don't young people think such noises are "cool" too? lol. I don't see the difference.

Not really. When I was a teenager, I asked the same questions about heavy metal and punk rock. That doesn't answer my questions either. It's more of an ad hominem attack.

Intellectuals and deep people don't listen to modern crap. They prefer classical music, instrumentals, or oldies. I like Renaissance and Baroque music too. I am an old soul and have past life memories from as early as the Middle Ages of Medieval Europe. So I think my soul is at least a thousand years old. lol

It's not just baroque etc that has disappeared. Earlier today I heard this one on a radio station here in Athens Georgia.

It would NOT get play on a music television network nowadays....
....which I BELIEVE is how teenage girls decide what is cool.

Pop music has been manufactured by record companies for decades now.

It's like anything nowadays - if you want to find real talent you have to go looking, MSM will for the most part only feed you lowest common denominator garbage.

What the heck is that? I could only tolerate a second of it. It was loud. Sounded like typical hard rock. I might listen to that in a bar. But not at home. It does not soothe my senses or touch my romantic soul.

If you're looking for a real answer, I have a theory about a few contributing factors:

(1) The "Family Guy Style." Not trying to blame it all on that TV show, but there's a lot of overlap as far as general concepts go. It's hard to explain things like this, but I'd phrase it as "intangible trends." That's a major thing about the current youth generation: they're very "ironic." Take that scene in Gran Torino, when the kid is acting like he's humping the old woman when she's getting something out of the trunk of her car. Whatever you want to call that, it's that kind of personality pattern.

(2) Having a general problem with valuing things. I've noticed that some people seem to think that valuing something is being pushed around. Of course valuing NOT valuing things IS valuing something, so they're right back where they started. It's a whole "the desire to rid yourself of desire IS a desire" type of thing.

(3) It seems like they applaud things that are without skill. Same goes with it being a badge of honor to not understand something. Chris Rock mentioned this in one of his shows (I think it was in "Bigger & Blacker")- something about "keeping it real... REAL DUMB!"

(4) The music videos to a lot of these songs are borderline soft-core porn. Plain & simple, it's highly viewed/liked/shared/voted-for because some chick is shaking her ass in the video.

(5) A reflex to be contradictive/counterintuitive. If they like something, they'll say they dislike it & if they dislike something, they'll say the like it.

Back decades ago the power elite did not control every aspect of what content we were exposed to in America, today they do.

You are looking at social engineering in todays music rather than talent who can rise to the top with good music decided by the people who listen to it or a free and open market with a literate consumer.

At least the music in the 80's had heart and soul. Here is an example. It's one of my favorite songs called "Freedom" by Wham.

Very good points.

How come the music of the 1940's and 1950's was so beautiful and romantic, like my soul is? Why can't they make music like that anymore? Check out this compilation of 7 hours of 1950's easy listening music with romantic scenes. How come no one else is a true romantic except me?

Video about the death of melody in modern music. So true. I was wondering why modern music no longer has any melody and why no one is mentioning it. Because melody and essential to music.
