I agree that the remastered version is better. Especially now we've started on GTA Vice City Stories. The gameplay is much easier on the remastered version. My initial complaint was that Rockstar were charging 60 pounds for three old ps2 games, which seems excessive, especially since you could buy all three of the original GTA games for the ps2 at a tenner a piece.
You can still get the old PS2 versions for a tenner a piece but for that you need to already have a PS2 which is obsolete technology (many people no longer own this console) and then you have to deal with the inferior graphics and mechanics from the early 2000s. The Definitive Edition is worth it for PS4/PS5 players. 60 pounds is standard for newly released games nowadays and now having these classic GTA games available for modern consoles and with an updated control scheme is majorly convenient. I never bought into the crybaby anti-DE rage on the internet.

I just hope that Rockstar re-release Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories on PS4/PS5. Many old games from the PS1 and PS2 eras are being made available on Playstation Plus right now. I'd love to be able to replay those lesser known GTA games on a modern console.

I prefer GTA Vice City over San Andreas for several reasons. The first is that in Vice City you play an Italian American gangster and in San Andreas you play as some petty street thug who goes round spray painting neighbourhoods. The story is much better in Vice City with characters like Lance Vance and Diaz, whereas in San Andreas the story seems all over the place. The property missions are superior to San Andreas tedious street gang fights for territory, which is just repetitive and boring after so many gang fights. Also the map on Vice City is easier to navigate, with iconic locations such as the Malibu and Sunshine Autos. San Andreas map is big, but difficult to find your way round as it lacks any iconic locations which stand out to the player. For these reasons Vice City is the superior GTA.
Some people might simply prefer the 80s Miami vibe of Vice City (which I like a lot) but the story in San Andreas is actually a lot more elaborate. Tommy Vercetti's story in Vice City is just a generic mobster-rises-to-the-top story but CJ in San Andreas is a much more nuanced character and his story features many more plot twists and points of conflict. At the beginning of San Andreas you start with petty acts of niggatry such as tagging your gang's turf and performing drivebys on Ballas (that is to be expected in a game about life in da hood  ) but pretty soon you are doing missions where you have to assassinate key people from the Russian mafia and perform assignments for CRASH and then later in the game you do some of the funnest and most elaborate missions ever to exist in a GTA game from infiltrating military bases to aerial battles with enemy jets. The quality of the missions in San Andreas is massively improved since the days of GTA 3 and Vice City. San Andreas' map also has many iconic locations which correspond to real-life locations, especially in Los Santos and Las Venturas. It's just that you didn't play the game enough to get a feel for them. Vice City isn't objectively superior to San Andreas. San Andreas has more developed mechanics and better-designed missions. It's just that you like Vice City's aesthetic more.

If you like gaming at all and you've never owned a ps2 you should straight up go get yourself one. Like, yesterday. That was THE best era of gaming imho.

You had the GTAs, the Final Fantasies, the Metal Gear Solids, the Silent Hills, the Prince of Persias, the Tomb Raiders, the Disgaeas, the Personas, the Resident Evils, the Fatal Frames, the God of Wars, the DDRs, the Team ICO games, the Katamari Damacies, and many many other fantastic titles, there was so much great and original stuff to play which is still fun today. Hell, I would keep a ps2 around just to be able to play one title--God Hand--over and over.

I don't recommend so much the PSX era, when 3D graphics were chunky and blocky and confusing and devs still had a lot to learn about cameras. Nor do I recommend the modern day where originality has fallen by the wayside due to the overemphasis on graphics...which leads to inflated budgets...which leads to publishers' hesitancy to take risks or try anything new.

Watch this thoughtfull video essay about the fall of mainstream gaming, which compares the ps2 era (favorably) to the modern day. (or rather, to 2020)
Looking back at what the last ten years have meant for video games

Hey @Lucas88 and other fans of the GTA franchise. I didn't want to make a new thread just for this, so I thought I would post this information here in this thread about GTA.

I wanted to initiate some triggernomitry  see if I can get hardcore GTA fans like @Lucas88 triggered with the news of the upcoming GTA 6 game.

In GTA 6 leaks apparently the main protagonist is a Latinx woman (Used as a gender-neutral or non-binary term in place of Latina or Latino) who is based on a Bonnie & Clyde type of character who robs from majority rich white men.

Half the staff and writers of Rockstar have been fired to make way for a "more diverse" work space. These new writers and the Rockstar team have said that they won't be punching down in humour. So no more race jokes or LGBTQ+ jokes, no disabled or gender jokes, unless it is punching up against straight white men

They've also started modifying GTA V Online to pander to the LGBTQ agenda by removing transvestites, racist, sexist and LGBT jokes and characters from GTA online. With their latest update on GTA V Online they removed drag queens so nobody could kill them anymore.

If these leaks are true and Rockstar is taking this route of faggotry, then I will boycott any future releases from Rockstar. They can take their LGBTQ bullshit and go f**k themselves with it.
It's sounds like Rockstar Games have enjoyed one too many Rusty Browns Ring Donuts. At this point they might as well be prancing around in bras and ladies' tights at the other end of Queer Street!

I'm not playing as a non-binary "Latinx" just to appease "woke" sensitivities. I wouldn't even mind if the game had a Latina trans character like those super-duper hot, feminine, tarty Tguuurls that you find on escort sites but they'll surely go with the ugly, confused gender-queer aesthetic that those screwballs like so much.

Today's Rockstar is not the same company as the awesome Rockstar of old which made all of the brilliant classics of our childhood. Most of their new stuff is just plain shit anyway and they've been milking GTA V and GTA Online for almost a decade now. The 3D Universe era games are the true GTA anyway. Today's Cockstar Gaymes can go suck a dick!

Hey, remember when Rockstar were "transphobic"?

The fact that you would play as a trans at all is still the same, I wouldn't even play it if the damn character was an attractive trans. Hell I may have been desperate enough to date these people when I failed at getting actual women to notice me, but f**k if I'm going to support shit aimed at their kind. Rockstar is a damn moron for doing this. Two things will either happen, one people will still support it just because it's GTA, or two they get it thrown back in their faces if the gamers are smart enough to sit this one out. Me? I was never a big fan of these games, I only played them because they felt like longer games and took awhile to complete unless you used cheats, then u could blow through any mission easily with better weaponry and enough ammunition. Either way, gaming has gone to complete and utter shit now that leftist and feminist men/women control the f***ing gaming industry. This is exactly why everything f***ing sucks now, the overly sensitive crowd owns all the media because people won't do anything to take it back. Outcast is always going on about how "woke" shit is being removed yet I still see big name studios pushing woke crap.

Oh no, I don't mean as a protagonist (in a GTA game the protagonist should always be a baddass dude since GTA is a game about organized crime and gang warfare and made for men). Any woke content should be kept well away from our games and screw any game company that tries to force-feed us that shit. If a GTA game is going to include gay or trans characters, they should reflect humorous and over-the-top stereotypes like the characters in the earlier games in the 2000s and certainly not what the woke mafia deems politically correct or acceptable.

People have been talking about the inclusion of a female protagonist in a GTA game for some time now, but I think that, if Rockstar choose to do down that route, they could only pull it off if the protagonist were an absolute psycho woman and also conventionally sexy. A character like Catalina comes to mind. The straight, non-woke male fanbase might accept a female protagonist like that. But a lame, non-sexy woke female protagonist would only alienate a lot of male fans.

As for the newer GTA games, I don't even play them. I tried playing GTA 4 and, despite its greater realism, the gameplay was slow and boring and felt more like a Serbian soap opera. Then, when GTA 5 came out, I played it a little with my brother and it was pretty much the same: boring mundane content which felt more like a Californian soap opera than an actual GTA game, muh graphics and muh gigantic map notwithstanding. So I still only play the older game from the 3D Universe era (GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas, VCS, LCS) which all have way better and more action-packed gameplay and funnier humor. I'm a retro gamer and never even play modern games. The only thing that interests me about GTA6 is its map; I wanna see what the HD Universe version of Vice City looks like.

That's just the problem though, most games are better off without females in them. GTA would never work with a woman unless she's a police officer then sure why not. But only if she doesn't come off as some dickhead type cop like that detective fag Tak was in Judgement. I hated that guy, he was a bonofide hypocrite too, he would commit crimes but be anti-crime at the same damn time. He would resort to torture methods to get answers from criminals yet he would talk shit about how it's wrong to break and enter, etc. I can't believe how lame they make Yakuza men in those games, they were so terrified of this guy that even the Mole who was suppose to be a better fighter still lost up against him. Aside from that, I think male gamers as a whole are pandering themselves just as much as the studios. Next they'll be begging Sega to add a female protagonist in Yakuza games which would be total SHIT.

Yakuza is more of a mans game than any GTA game ever was, therefore throwing a female lead into those games would be an insult to the Yakuza itself. But I can definitely see Japan doing this sort of thing to please western males that demand pandering. Women characters work for games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and so on. But there are games where they have no place in at all. I do agree with you about GTA4 and 5 though, GTA5 made a whole lot of money. But GTA6 going vice city again seems quite meh to me. I really didn't like the 80s nearly as much as the 1990s and early 2000s.

Although they had great movies from the 80s, a lot of great movies like Ghost Busters 1-2, My Bodyguard, The Principal, The Last Dragon, Bloodsport, Deathwish 2-3, and several other great films. The 80s gave ups great tv series like Knight Rider and Macgyver. So I cannot argue that the 80s didn't have some great culture behind it, including a whole lot of great songs from that era as well. I think GTA having more of a 90s grunge feel would have been better only if the protagonist wasn't a trans or a woman or whatever the hell they are going with this time around. I just can't see myself playing as a violent female criminal, the fact that she'll be using a lot of profanity, be represented as extremely unlady like, etc it would be tough for me to get into such a product. I'm fully aware of female crime lords that do exist in the real world so it's not like female criminals are a myth or anything.

Still this isn't going to work at all for me so I'll just pass up on GTA6, maybe if they go back to their roots with GTA7 if there is a GTA7, then maybe I'll show interest in the product again. I really hated the characters in GTA4 and even more so in GTA5, Trevor was a stupid drugged out asshole that got reckless half the time dwelling on Michael betraying him the majority of the game, Michael was a dumbass that let his family walk all over him and had no actual authority in his own house so his wife was a cheating ass bitch that should have been kicked out the house the first time he caught her fooling around but instead he acts like the typical jealous moronic weak husband and goes after the guy instead by tearing down his damn house but he doesn't even bother to punish his shitty ass wife. Instead he "fixes" his marriage with her because he's a pathetic loser that deserve the option B.

And his daughter was a whore that needed her ass kicked when he caught her trying to do porn, his son a weed smoking wannabe thug loser that needed an ass kicking as well, and Franklyn was a black beta male bitch boy that had to tell his girlfriend "Baby Imma change!"
With GTA4 you were just a boring foreigner in "New York" that sought revenge but you are given a choice to decide if revenge is what you really want or spare the guy and walk away with your hands blood-free aside from the blood you already spilled throughout the entire game, but they give you that one chance at redemption to walk away from it all. I can't remember what the guy was like in Vice City, I hated the protagonist of Andreas since he reminded me of all those lame ass hood niggas trying to be a thug but know they wouldn't survive for very long anyway. It was basically a fake ass Boyz in the Hood game. That one guy was a straight up Easy Z wannabe. I forget his name its the one that betrays you.

@WanderingProtagonist

I didn't get very far with GTA 4 and GTA 5 because I found them so boring and uninspiring and just gave up on them. I do remember though that in GTA 5 Michael was a total cuck and just didn't inspire any awe while Franklin was just another boring generic Black gangsta. Trevor was the only protagonist who stood out at all and that was simply due to how batshit crazy and psychotic he was. I think that by that time Rockstar had already completely lost touch with the art of storytelling and character development.

San Andreas actually had a lot of nuanced storytelling and character development though. The protagonist CJ, his sister Kendl and her boyfriend César weren't just typical gangbangers like most of the other characters; they actually wanted to get out of the hood and seek a better life for themselves and indeed managed to do so until they were dragged back into that culture by CJ's brother Sweet during the Los Santos riots. After leaving Los Santos, CJ begins to work for the Triads in San Fierro and builds up his own mostly legitimate businesses. Then he goes to Las Venturas and establishes himself in the Casino industry and even becomes Madd Dog's manager at one point. But then the riots break out and he is pulled back into the hood by his dumb yet loyal brother even though he doesn't really want to go back. That is when the gangwars start again and he is forced to take out the traitor Big Smoke and the manipulative bent cop Officer Tenpenny.

I admit that I didn't like San Andreas at first. It felt like going from the mafia and Scarface themes of GTA 3 and Vice City to some low-level hood nigga buffoonery (no offense to any Black people, many of whom are extremely decent, but that's how I initially perceived the game). But as I played through the game more at the behest of my brother who's a massive fan of San Andreas and realized that the story is a lot more nuanced, I started to really enjoy the game and many of the characters were really growing on me. I also found many of the missions later on in the game extremely fun and unique and a massive improvement upon those of Vice City which is an awesome game in its own right.

Tommy Vercetti from Vice City is a good character. He's a psycho but he has an interesting backstory and some obvious redeeming qualities. Tommy was voiced by Ray Liotta.

If you like the grungy 90s and early 2000s vibe, then you would probably enjoy GTA 3. It's set in the dark and gloomy Liberty City and is probably the most dystopian GTA game. Released in 2001, GTA 3 captures that era's atmosphere perfectly (not just my opinion, many others say the same thing) and so for me it provides a somewhat nostalgic gaming experience.

GTA 3's prequel Liberty City Stories is quite similar too. It is set in 1998, three years prior to the events of GTA 3, and it also has quite a dark and grungy vibe. Certainly a recommendation for anybody who enjoyed GTA 3, even though it is probably the weakest installment of the whole 3D Universe era, but not a bad game by any means.

I'm playing through San Andreas again right now (I like to go back to a GTA game every few months because I'm obsessed with the GTA universe and think that the earlier games are so awesome 👍) and I've noticed a few things.

San Andreas might actually have worse AI than Vice City. I swear that the NPCs are dumber in SA. I go up to a hostile gang in the street and kill some of the members but their buddies immediately beside them often just stand there or walk around casually as though everything were okay. That doesn't happen in Vice City. As soon as you approach a hostile gang in VC they all start shooting at your relentlessly and, if there are too many of them, you are forced to bail. VC's NPCs are better.

San Andreas is also supposed to have more advanced game mechanics and they are indeed a bit slower and more realistic, but at the same time they're not as fun as those of Vice City. Vehicles speed around much faster in VC but this actually makes the game harder since everything is more chaotic and the cops just ram into you relentlessly at full speed. San Andreas' cops behave in a more realistic manner but they're not as difficult to deal with since they don't come crashing into you like maniacs at every opportunity. I actually prefer Vice City's faster and crazier physics despite them not being as technically advanced.

San Andreas drops off a little in terms of mission quality at the point of San Fierro (the 2nd city). In contrast to Los Santos (the 1st city) which is just perfect in terms of mission content with every mission suiting the theme of the game and most of them being enjoyable, San Fierro's missions become very hit-and-miss in terms of their quality and there is in increase of pointless filler. There are some totally unsubstantial missions where you simply pick friends up from various locations in the city or drive to Angel Pine with César to take photos. There's that stupid construction site mission. You buy Wang Cars as a property but all of the missions consist of boring carjackings. Only the Triad mission, the pimping missions and the gang war with The Loco Syndicate make San Fierro half-enjoyable.

However, San Andreas becomes awesome again once you get past San Fierro and unlock the airstrip in the desert and Las Venturas. The missions at those stages of the game are undoubtedly some of the best in any GTA game and the fun just keeps piling up. The strip with its casinos is one of the most aesthetically pleasing parts of the whole map. The Italian mafias from GTA 3 also enter the game at that point and business picks up.

San Andreas has hotter female NPCs though. The titties and asses just look way better and often give me a boner! 🍑🔥🥒🌮

Here are two GTA mods which change one or more aspects of each mission to make it much harder: Tightened Thrice and Tightened Vice, for GTA 3 and GTA Vice City respectively.

I've watched through some videos of these mods. They do indeed make the games much more fun by adding more powerful enemies and extra obstacles or even changing up some missions completely.

The mods also introduce new radio stations as well as other new features. It's always good to shake things up a bit for the sake of novelty.

I don't know who the modder is but he did a really good jerb with these mods. I'd like to play through them when I get a better laptop.

A speedrun of Tightened Thrice (GTA 3):

A playthrough of Tightened Vice (GTA Vice City):

What do you think of these mods, @Pixel--Dude? What about you, @Natural_Born_Cynic?

I actually wanna play Tightened Thrice the most. I think that GTA 3 is a very underrated GTA game, has some really interesting objective-based missions and is more challenging than both GTA Vice City and San Andreas. I even like the aesthetics for their dystopian atmosphere. The contrast between the dark and hopeless Liberty City and the shining lights of pristine sportscars and such is awesome. The game also catches the overall vibe of the early 2000s perfectly. 8)

Here's another mod for GTA Vice City called GTA VC Big Mission Pack. It was made by a modder called Axirion and includes about 80 completely new missions, some of which are really creative and unique. It's like a fan-made DLC. 8)

I think both are wonderful additions to already great games. They add "more meat" to the base game. Rockstar should've made those into DLCs , but
They are too busy working on GTA 6 which the main character is some "Latina" women with big a$$(your favorite) and some guy.

Yes, some of those fan-made missions are as good as or even better than the original games themselves. Rockstar, you've got fans in their basements making awesome spinoff content for your games. Just hire them for fcuk sake and have them create for you some official DLCs!!!

As for GTA 6, I love the Latina woman with the big ass. I don't know how I'm gonna play that game without getting a massive boner and becoming distracted. :P

Here is some allegedly leaked footage of the female protagonist Lucia and her phat booty:

You know, they should've put Catalina from GTA 3 as main character.. Instead we got Lucia..

I don't think that it has been revealed what decade GTA 6 will be set in, but Catalina met her miserable end in 2001 when Claude shot down her chopper and blew up her big silicone titties.

The following is all that remains of those phat enhanced Latina phunbags :( :

So maybe it would be chronologically impossible to cast Catalina as the GTA 6 protagonist (an 80s setting would be too early for Catalina and any time after 2001 would obviously be after her horrific demise). Besides, Catalina is too evil to be the GTA 6 protagonist. All of the playable characters in the GTA series have had some redeeming qualities despite their criminality but Catalina has none whatsoever! :?
