This is the trouble with mercantilism and modernity. New projects are always expensive failures intended to enrich those close to the system.

Almost as big of a waste as the F-22 Raptors.
See...this is why Americans get so upset when we have to pay so much in taxes--and our tax dollars get spent on malfunctioning and very expensive air planes. LOL!

What you are looking at is when you have no competition and the buddy buddy system is in full swing. The Communal Dictatorship at it's best on display! We are waiting for everybody to figure this con out and why you cannot allow your rulers to print money out of thin air. This is what happens.
They have done a masterful job of disguising this counterfeiting con job but it inevitably shows it's real colors and fails.
The social engineers want the con to work but it shows it's total corruptness no matter how hard they attempt to conceal the fraud of fake money.

These expensive toys serve the dual purpose of feeding 1) one or two of the darlings of the military industrial complex and 2) the false perception that a small bunch of Western NATO allies (led by Mighty 'Merica) can continue to boast air superiority over non-aligned countries.

Yeah they tried to make it too generalized instead of designing separate craft for different roles and ironically that is what kept putting it over budget. At this rate China won't have anything useful to steal
