Yes, I think you should stop. Think about it this way how many performance athletes are vegetarians? There are a few but they are way in the minority and most of them aren't on top of the competition. Look at MMA fighters a lot of them have perfect and functional physiques and you won't find many vegans amongst them.Winston wrote:Hi all,
I'm wondering if I should quit being a vegetarian.
Yes i'd definitely say that your body shape has a lot to do with the lack of protein and probably other stuff like Omega-3 in your diet. A diet with a lot of grains, starches, and sugars will mess your body up.- Ever since I became a vegetarian in 1990, I've gained weight and lost muscle mass. I used to be stronger and believe it or not, was able to beat most guys my age in arm wrestling (when I was a teen). It may be that due to lack of protein, I felt less full and so ate more carbs in the form of rice, bread, cheese, cookies, cakes, pasta, popcorn, etc. which cause more weight gain.
Endurance runners aren't full physique athletes. They are usually rail thin with wiry type muscles designed for stamina. That's why it's possible to be a vegan and an endurance runner they just need lots of carbs and not as much protein. Distance runners rarely have attractive body types. The people you see with very nice looking bodies are always sprinters, swimmers, fighters etc.. because they are in "functional" sports where the whole body is being worked out.- Many endurance runners, even in the Olympics, are vegetarians, so there must be benefits to it.
You don't have to eat red meat. You can eat fish, free range chicken, etc..- Also if you haven't eaten meat for many years, how can you start again? Won't it make your stomach sick to even try?
What do you all think?
Meat is natural for the body you won't feel sick at all.
