Best country for getaway.

Let's assume I wanted to have a residence in the Philippines, but wanted to have a second small little pad to get away to. What place would be best to have a place in? Thailand seems interesting, but the ownership issue might be a problem. What would be someplace like Brazil or Thailand that has a unique feel, but is kind of inexpensive? Perhaps if money was no object, you could maybe buy an apartment complex and split the ownership with someone. That way, there is not just you, there is also others, which would actually earn both of yous money. What about Bulgaria or Romania? Colombia? I want something different, but inexpensive also. Any thoughts?
