More Americans are relinquishing Citizenship

Post by Taco »

By the end of this year there will be a mad rush to the border...

More Americans are relinquishing their US citizenship than ever before

Also, Filipinos are leaving in droves and will not be coming back...

Even more foreigners have left the Philippines and there is no guarantee they will even be allowed to come back.

In the first half of 2020, over 5,800 gave up their citizenship of the US,
Quite a small number of people...

USA has over 340 million people. It's not the best country in this world, but surely far away from being the worst.

Once the country loses it's currency it is gone and I mean gone. The elites have been waiting to carve this thing up for centuries..

They are smart people....

I’d have done the same if it were not for the financial hit. So I am opting for additional citizenships instead.

Usually in two cases: 1) they are middle class and are able have citizenship in another 1st world country because of special skills, enough points, marriage, descent, investment, etc. So, an American becomes, say, an Australian.
2) They are very rich and do not want to pay tax. So they get a Belizian one or from S. Lucia and then move to live on Cayman islands, etc.

There is no sense in any other cases to relinquish.

Some people just are fed up with American culture and society too. I fall into that camp, but the “golden handcuffs” keep me tethered. In addition, and you alluded to something similar, the FATCA law is risky and draconian for American citizens, some of whom have never even lived to the USA. Run afoul of that law and bank assets could be seized and a warrant put out for your arrest. Boris Johnson was an dual citizen American and had to pay tax and file FATCA documentation to get right with the US government.

As more and more affluent Americans move abroad and renounce, there will likely be more brazen policies to punish wealthy people in the form of capital controls, required financial disclosures, and hefty fines to increase revenue....

Also if you completely renounce US citizenship forever you won't be at risk of running afoul USC 18 subsection 2423.

If I were the president of the Phil's I would grant refugee status to men over 45 from western countries escaping feminist persecution for having sex with young women.

Wish I could do the same. The 'Murican gubbermunt is as screwed up as ever, and looking at the threads listed in "similar topics", it seems like this trend has been a steady increase for the entire past decade now.

Thanks, but I know you're just as likely to take the same path if you so choose.
