New + some thoughts

Greetings all- I'm a 30 year-old guy from the Northern U.S. who now lives in Florida.
I'm a professional writer and work in a creative field, at which i'm quite successful.
Outside of work i enjoy philosophy and spirituality, video games, science fiction, fine beers, and cuisine.
Like many guys here, i've had hit-or-miss experiences with women and my social life in general for most of my life. I was dateless all through high school. Had a few girlfriends in college. Turned into kind of a manipulative guy for a while after college, broke some hearts, and decided that path wasn't good for me. I've been celibate by choice for several years now, while i worked on myself and figured out more what i want in women.
As far as my looks, i'm over 6 feet and caucasian. On the heavy side, though not obese. I am VERY funny, articulate, empathetic, and wise. Though not an extrovert in any way, and can be really quiet in social gatherings. I'm a big nerd, though i have some fashion and culture sense when i feel like showing it.
Now i find myself interested in the opposite sex again, yet rather uninterested in the typical dating scene. I think dating and socializing in general these days is kinda sleazy, and is usually mostly about "What are YOU going to do for ME" rather than "Let's go out and connect with people."
I am generally not considered dating material by the majority of young women going for players/rockers/silver spoons. I'm often considered "gay" by those women. Which is laughed at by my gay friends.
I could probably develop a "tortured artist" persona and pick up women that way, but that doesn't seem very much fun.
I have a fondness for women who are very cerebral, intelligent and creative. Though i would like to push my boundaries and have experiences with women who are more rooted in the physical world.
I have a feeling that both could be found through seeking adventures abroad.
I'll be posting here off and on, so talk to you all later.
