Welcome, nice to hear from you.
I am from Europe, living in Japan since more than 40 years - first in Tokyo, and after retirement in Okayama.

Japan is a very clean and safe country, I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay.
Many Japanese are not really so communicative, and there are also language problems if you cannot speak Japanese, especially out in rural areas - however Japanese people will never bother you - very little street criminality going on, you can go out day and night to any place in this country.

I came back after a few years being gone. I've sort of settled right back into the nasty northern us city life I was used to. It took about two years. I enjoyed talking to people in Southeast Asia and now I prefer to just be left alone by most people. I've become a typical Bostonian again and it didn't even take long. I plan to go back to southeast Asia but it's going to take me some time to readjust. Honestly the american style of life Ive been living simply is not healthy

Some people say that the Japanese have to work too many hours for not much money, and that it's one of the weaknesses of Japan. But this past year, I worked outside 45 hours per week and only took home $415 (after taxes) per week, and have no benefits. And that's a skilled trade job. And our taxes in America are going up and up, and inflation is going up and up, all to support plane loads of immigrants coming into the country who get free health care and government handouts that a lot of actual American citizens don't get. America really is a nation in decline. I've been saying that for the last 20 years, but it is more true every year.
IMO American bosses are some of the cheapest, cheapo, miserly cunts on the planet. A lot of construction bosses I found are like this. They basically want you to kill yourself everyday, no breaks, no vacation, no medical, NOTHING. And I doubt they are even paying much more than ten schmucks an hour still.

Obviously there are some good high paying jobs in America, programmers seem to do very well for themselves. Accountants, financial advisors, real estate agents etc. seem to do pretty good. But there are a lot of cheap asses out there in America that give you ZERO benefits. I don’t know how people are supposed to raise a family on these jobs, even these skilled labor jobs. $415 is not even close to enough in this day and age. And you can forget about medical care in America. Apparently you are supposed to never get sick or just go to the doctor and pay cash. Forget about your teeth as well. Just let them rot I guess.

Yeah it was a rough job. And I was digging trenches at least once a week. Our boss never bought us a trencher, and the ground was either rocky or frozen in most places. I ended up using a big 15 amp rotary hammer drill that weighed about 40 pounds. "Big bertha." I put a spade attachment in, set it to rotate and hammer, held on to the side handle, and hammered out a trench through the frozen ground with that thing. Then we laid the cable in and backfilled it. Then went on to bend 4/0 aluminum wire by hand in freezing temps, drill through the cinderblock, terminate it in the panel. Then I had to go in and explain to the American-woman homeowner that I had to shut her house's power off to hook up the new cable, and they'd glare at me like I was an alien or something. They're totally rude. American women are completely ungrateful for all the hard work men do in this country. We build all the roads, bridges, planes and cars to move their fat rear ends around in, build all the nice heated and air conditioned houses for them to live in, and have you ever heard one of them thank a man for that?
I can just imagine the Murican bitch coming out of her cookie cutter house, probably just so distraught because she has to be slightly inconvenienced for a few moments while you break your back in the cold.

Some of the men aren't much better. The millennials/gen Zers I am stuck working with at work have all the social skills of a feral cat. Oh to be back in Japan...
I would genuinely be interested to hear a more detailed description of being back in America. I haven’t been in the continental U.S. for a long time now. It looks like a third world dump in so many places, and the social life seems absolutely abysmal. Does it feel like a trash heap compared to Japan or are there any noticeable upsides to be being back in America?

You probably picked up on the idea that there are a lot of people, especially young people, looking to get offended over the smallest offense, or even things that should not be offensive at all.

Innocuous comments can be taken for racism among the younger generation. They have LGBT clubs in school and kids watch TikTok. So some of these kids looking for acceptance will come out with some made-up gender they hear about on TikTok, or boys will dress like girls, and when the kids have normal reactions about how stupid and weird that is, brainwashed left wing kids will accuse them of being 'transphobic.'

Not all the country is heavily like that. This is less pronounced in conservative parts of the country. There still are some liberals hanging around. In those areas, college campuses would likely have a liberal contingent unless it is a very conservative school, like a conservative Christian school or a conservative themed university.

Depending on where you live and the time you shop, there may be a lot of empty shelves at the grocery store or a produce section that is almost wiped out. I do not quite get this supply chain labor shortage thing. I've heard of gasoline shortages in Texas also recently.

It's been going on for a while, but a lot of people are on their phones or have headphones in.
