I think this has nothing to do with Japan - this video is about Asian-American women (who are originally from Japan but living since long time in USA)

In USA often people complain about interracial marriage, regardless if Asian, black, white, mixed race ....

Here in Japan are not many black men, and almost no black women.

Not to mention the fact that the top-tier women of any race will typically go to the top-tier men of their own race. A famous black athlete or a handsome black movie star could get a top-tier white woman, but most average black men I've known who dated or married white women got kinda meh-looking white ladies. Just like how white men who date Asian women rarely seem to get the cream-of-the-crop girls... It's kind of a non-issue, a mass hysteria that feeds into the shallow minds of insecure men, most of them of the perpetually single variety.

This is true, if you are not a famous man or not exceptionally rich and barely average looking, your international/interracial female partner will not look so much better than yourself. I can say that about myself from Europe and about my Asian wife too if we look into a mirror.

On the other side however, I am now 45 years married, no problems at all, never divorced and if I look around, most couples are just average looking, nothing special at all...regardless if with a partner of same race or with a partner of different race.

All this racist BS-talk - something from Asian-American men claiming white men are stealing our women, or black men prefer white girls etc. - is in most cases coming from USA where topics about race discrimination, mixed race marriage of couples etc. play still a major role. Of course such BS-talk exists also somewhere else worldwide but by far not to such an extent.

I think that some people in this thread are blowing things completely out of proportion.

In the vast majority of Japanese towns and cities, there are hardly any foreigners at all and especially not foreigners of African descent. Almost everybody is Japanese. Almost everybody dates other Japanese people.

I was in a city called Ogaki in the Gifu prefecture and there they have a sizeable Brazilian population and it's not unheard of to encounter Japanese-Brazilian mixes (the girls have a really unique phenotype). However, those are just a small minority and the vast majority still only date other Japanese people.

Then I went to Nagoya, a much more multicultural city in Japan, and there I saw many black- and brown-skinned foreigners doing business at the market and walking around in the streets. But even in Nagoya the majority of Japanese still only associate with and date other Japanese people.

I don't think that anybody should reasonably be worrying about Japan being lost to miscegenation any time soon. Asian people are still far more xenophobic than modern Europeans are. People here are citing some very marginal cases without looking at the bigger picture.

I think a white man in Indonesia who is average gets an extra point out of 10 for looks, or at least he appeals to a certain subsection. And those guys who end up with 'meh' looking Asian chicks may be the guys who aren't picky about looks, who just think a girl is hot because she's Asian. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and a girl that looks plain to you may have some feature that man goes crazy about.

I am living in OkayamaCity/KurashikiCity, these two cities are connected to each other, and total population is about 1.2 million people, not such a small area.

Foreigners, like myself from Europe in the area permanently where I am living now, no idea, but almost not existent I would say. Hardly seen even one white person face to face since my relocation from Tokyo to Okayama after my retirement 6 years ago.

I have never seen a black person here in Okayama, but only in Hiroshima because of the US-military facility in Iwakuni.

The huge majority of foreigners in Japan are from other Asian countries nearby, and sometimes it is difficult to identify them as foreigners - especially those who are living in Japan permanently and are just passers-by next to me.

Korean residents can be easily mistaken for a local Japanese. Brazil Japanese too... You can identify them only by their language if they speak to each other....in Korean or in Portuguese....and there are some Chinese/Taiwan, Vietnamese, Indonesians around, also met one time a Thai and a few people from Nepal/India/SriLanka, Filipinos...

There is a census every 10 years and it is collecting also data about marriage between foreigners and Japanese nationals living in Japan. There are many more Japanese men married to a foreign (mostly Asian) wife than Japanese women married to a foreign man, outnumber them more than 2:1.
