Are Expats the Opposite of Americans? (Winston is the opposite of an typical Asian-American)

Post by ArchibaultNew »

Hey guys,

So I run into this thought. I noticed that Winston is the opposite of most Asians that I've met most

Asian- American's tend to be close minded, pessimistic, hypercritical, hardworking, and exclusively socializes and dates with Asians.

Winston meanwhile is open minded, somewhat more optimistic, willing to give positive feedback, he seems more laidback, and socializes and dates with people of all ethnic groups.

Aso I noticed that a lot of Asians look down on other Asians, something that Winston doesn't do. Winston, other expats(non-Asians) talk great about Philippines, Thailand while some Asians I talked about tend to look down on them.

When it comes to Americans:

Most Americans tend to be:
-Highly Patriotic they will defend American right or wrong, even when all the evidence is point that American does some things wrong,
-Anti-Social they dislike other people, I heard some Americans even say, "Eurothrash" when talking about Europeans. They are only "superficially" friendly but it would be hard to be long term friends with them.
-Cheerful, if we are mixing positive and negative traits I would say many are cheerful,
-Deeply religious, this is even in the "liberal" big cities when most Americans will pray and this includes all ethincities like I was surprised how religious some African Americans were.
-No Socializing with people who are "different": I'll be honest but what I notice is that most Americans don't "mingle" with people of other ethnicities. Don't believe the "Hollywood" propaganda most Americans tend to stick with friends from the same ethnic and economic group. I went to a college where everyone was white and upper-middleclass and everyone hang out with only people who were the same as them. The "black, ethnic and poor students" all hang out with each other and form tight knit groups.
No Race Mixing: This might be a "Taboo" topic but I'll be honest I have not seen that many "Mixed Raced" couples, the only one's I've seen have been from Europe or it was old white guy with an Asian girlfriend.
-Anti-Intellectual: Most Americans I meet tend to be Anti-Intellectual, expect the very liberal types at colleges who are the exception
-Lack intellectual Curiosity: They won't learn different languages or want to learn about people from other cultures.

Expat tend to be:
-Critical of America: I noticed that this space Expats are willing to criticize America.
-Pro-Social: Many expats befriend other expats, travellers and locals.
-Cynical, unlike Americans Expats give me a more Charles Buwoski kind of vibe where they are more cynical about America and the world and about the "system/matrix."
Less religious, its hard to say how religious expats are but they give me the vibe that they are way less religious than the Average Americas. Some are willing who do the "player lifestyle" especially and others who visit hookers.
-Willing Socializing with people who are "different": I've expats mingle with all kinds of locals form the poorest to the wealthiest. As well as people from different ethnic groups.
Race Mixing: Some expats will marry women from East Asia, Latin America..etc.
-A bit more Intellectual: Again, it might not be as intellectual as Europeans but I think that they definitely are higher on the intellectual side of things.
-Intellectual Curiosity: Definitely, many expats want to learn about other cultures, languages and people.

Conclusion: What do you guys think? Some Expats are wise, some are still super-pro america but I think most are Different.

How can they be both Cheerful and Anti-Social at the same time? Oh wait, it's the United States of Insanity, so it makes sense that mental disorders are the norm here in America.

I said it once. I'll say it again. All you have to do is look into the eyes of people in this country. Look at their eyes. Everyone is NUTS !!! NUTS. NUTS.

I meant "Cheerful" as in "superficially friendly" and somewhat naive in believing American's "greatness." While more experience Expats are more cynical and understand American Society better.
