Jamie Foxx -- the father of two daughters -- often sings about love, but he tells Oprah that marriage may not be for him. In a recent interview on "Oprah's Next Chapter," Jamie shares his thoughts on monogamy, matrimony and more.
When Oprah asks Jamie if he's "built for marriage," Jamie says he's not sure.
"I don't know if I'm built for marriage," Jamie says. "I know one thing: I'm a very loving person when it comes to connecting with someone and being there."
Jamie says he's noticed as he's gotten older, that he can't really take the chance on love the way he would have when he was younger.
"Like in your 20s, you're like, 'Whatever.' [But] if you're going to be 50 in the next five years... you don't want to be in a certain relationship with someone who's either too young, or been out. You have to be with somebody who really allows you to talk, and allows you to get your points across and listened to. I don't want to risk it."
Oprah asks Jamie if he's ruled marriage out entirely, or if he's just waiting for the right person.
"I don't think you should do that," he says. "No. When you say 'the right person,' that's not going to happen. It's tough."
Then, Jamie turns the tables on Oprah: "I mean, how do you deal with it?" he asks.
"I'm not even talking about that," Oprah says. "I'm not even going there."
"Maybe you can shine a light on [what] I'm going through!" Jamie says. Then he tells Oprah he doesn't think marriage is in the cards for him.
"I feel like I've been put earth for a certain thing," he says. "And that maybe marriage didn't come with that."
"I absolutely felt that," Oprah says. "Okay, we agree on that."
So is Jamie capable of being in a monogamous, sustained relationship?
"I think we're all capable of it," he says. "My thing is like this -- this is what I say to all of my friends that are in this business: 'Whoever you're dating, don't let anybody know.'"
