This article is completely wrong. The past and the future do not exist in the present, yet we are concerned about both. So existence is not a criteria for whether or not to be concerned. The best explanation of afterlife comes, ironically enough, from Richard Dawkins in "The Selfish Gene". We are designed and programmed to serve our genes, so we derive the most satisfaction when we do those things that serve our genes. This is why we value what happens after our death, because we serve our genes and our genes are not mortal.
