Small home remodel shows are popular in Japan, where space is a premium in the cities. The format of a typical episode begins with showing the home owner's troubles living in small, cramped space, then the contractor arrives and come up with various ways to maximize space usage, followed by scenes of happy/happier family enjoying their new interior.

I like the concepts in a problem-solving/sokoban type of way, but not in a want-to-live-like-that type of way.
