The school shooter phenomenon is usually considered a product of the last twenty years. Some might call it a product of Feminism, though I would more broadly characterize it as rebellion against Post-Modernism.

But are there other examples in history? Obviously one can't stretch too far back into history because guns are a relatively recent invention.

This is not what I am talking about. Instead I am referring to cause and effect. Societies that have throughout history deprived men of purpose and discipline necessary to harness their energies. Did men, especially young men, act out in similar fashion with spears and swords?

I have no historical examples for this hypothesis, so I instead turn to you. The Happier Abroad community has proven itself quite knowledgeable.

Does anyone have an idea of similar phenomenons throughout history, perhaps in collapsing empires?

When white men try to divert attention from gun control by talking about mental health issues, many people buy into the idea that the United States has a national mental health problem, or flawed systems with which to address those problems, and they think that is what produces mass shootings.

But women and girls with mental health issues are not picking up semiautomatic weapons and shooting schoolchildren. Immigrants with mental health issues are not committing mass shootings in malls and movie theaters. Latinos with mental health issues are not continually killing groups of strangers.

Well no shit. Girls as school shooters? That'll be the day.

There's a human need for struggle to give purpose to life, so Leftists have to pretend the last 50 years hasn't been an overwhelming victory in their favor:

Amok killing sprees are a time honored tradition, particularly in South East Asia. I don't know whether there is any connection with schools or not.

Although the Amok thing is pretty fascinating etymology. The wiki calls it a "culture bound syndrome" specific to Malaysia, though this may be our variant.

"Women with mental health issues" (:? sounds redundant) kill and harm children (even their own) by orders of magnitude beyond what men do & receive lower punishment to boot.

Yeah, but those are mothers. It's a different phenomenon from school shootings.
