Ive had three, count them, three guys in that age range, who I have payed to come out to my house to do some work because they were out of work and needed money badly, so to be nice, I payed them in ADVANCE to help them out in a time of need. . . and they never showed up! Keep in mind, they arent busy with employment they got at the last minute, I could understand that much. Why bother to work if you have no property rights in the long run, just look what is going on in the housing mortgage industry. When I was born you could pay your spread off in no time flat and all you did was sign some paper work and you were in a nice home to have a family.

After WWII, returning GI's got free trade school OR college, PLUS A STIPEND, AND they got AFFORDABLE mortgages (20 year payoff I think) with NOTHING DOWN and NO CREDIT. Oh and those houses were in decent neighborhoods with decent schools. PLUS companies were hiring everywhere.

I am surprised they have not revolted yet, I think the fluoride may be working wonders on our systems.

Because things are too comfortable. Even in this steeply declining America, Americans still have a high level of comfort. And that means the revolution will not be happening anytime soon. Little sparks here and there, but most Americans still don't give a shit and the rulers have a lot of experience in putting those down.

Generations of people are largely products of the society and culture they grow up in. Some are lazy, others are like Cornfed said, and a rising number are having a change of heart about the world they live in.

What I'm noticing is that success is now being redefined. People are realizing that the American Dream is dead. And furthermore, some of the more astute are seeing that the Dream did not really include freedom. A good job is not going to show up anytime soon. But even in the U.S., you can still work a minimum wage job as a millennial and save up to go traveling. As a citizen of an anglo country, you can go teach English virtually anywhere in the world, an option the vast majority of people on this planet don't have.

I've read books by some of these types of guys who redefine success - 4 Hour Workweek, $100 Startup, Motivation Hacker, etc. A lot of crap in there, too, but one of the gold nuggets you find is that these ideas are doing away with the notion that having a "good job" means success, or that the white picket fence is the goal. When times get bad, some give up. Others struggle and find some success. A few let it all go and follow their dreams, whatever that may mean.

This is how I see the millennial mindset changing - giving up on the idea of a "good job" and following your dream is not being lazy. A lot of millenials live at home because they can't afford to move out, so they have time. If they use that time instead of sitting around venting all the time then they aren't lazy.

I've been applying to minimum wage jobs and still striking out. So this might tell us it's hard for millennial men to get ANY job, not just decent ones.

Not lazy per se, but uninspired and spineless. Pampered. Detached from nature and reality. Overly materialistic. And shallow to the bone.

I agree they are not lazy, only misguided. They also believe that they can't learn from what came before their generation. I have to deal with some of them in my family. Even though they have never traveled overseas and I have traveled and lived in many countries, they have told me that I don't understand foreign cultures and my thinking is out dated.

If I was a young guy just starting out, I'd be overseas teaching English or join the Peace Corps. I certainly wouldn't try to make it in American corporate world, believing good things will come to me if I just work harder.

Now I'm in Spain I see a lot of unemployed millenials. Hopefully I'll find out more why youth unemployment is so high. But in Barcelona it's clear that millenials aren't really getting on their bikes and starting businesses - Chinese immigrants are doing that here.

Most of us don't have the money to just go out and start a business worthwhile that will provide a decent salary, it's easier just to work for a good company.
