Yes, Winston, things have certainly been "swirling the toilet bowl for a long time." If you listen to alternative media, that notion is almost unavoidable. I too have been listening to those claims for years. They're also way too prevalent in expat circles. I made some life decisions with that sentiment in mind, and here we are...things are still trucking along. You can try to make your life more resilient, but ultimately, one should just keep their nose to grindstone, and expect the world to be business as usual for the most part.Winston wrote: ↑January 17th, 2012, 1:05 pmDon't you have things backwards? If the world economy is going down, then getting a job is the last thing you should be doing. Becoming independent with your own self-employment income would be better in that case.polya wrote:With the world economy going down the crapper, it's too late to do much to make money now on-line. There's already thousands of porn sites going out of nusiness. Ebay is sure slipping now - I personally have almost stopped using it since buyer's can't give sellers negative feedback anymore. I'd recommend finding a good job in your "new" country & if you can't just stay home. I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's the only logical advice.
But come on now, people have been saying that for thousands of years, that the world economy is going down. Remember that quote: "People are unhappy because they believe the past to be better than it really was, and the present to be worse than it actually is."
It is not too late. The online world is still very active and there are markets out there to be tapped into, especially as more and more countries become developed and more people have access to the internet.
I don't think we are ever going to see total global economic calamity overnight. What we will see is a slow burning inflation, increased cost of living and a totalitarian tiptoe. The powers that be in this world are control freaks, and they certainly don't want any major events to happen that they can't accurately manage. That's why covid was basically a global false flag. The powers that be are cowards, and would never risk a real lethal virus that might jump onto them or any real global event that could directly affect them. Buckle up for more boredom. We're not going Mad Max for a while, if ever.
