Learning Spanish?
When I get to Mexico, my question is this: How much Spanish do I need to know? I ask because my Spanish is about basic level. In other words, I know enough Spanish to not only carry on a (short) conversation with a Spanish speaker, but to understand (at most) between 85% and 95% of what they say in response to me.
Do I need to learn more Spanish, or is my level of Spanish sufficient for a vacation in Mexico, and possibly to meet girls?

Intermediate cognizance of any language in any culture would suffice in going beyond the scope of P4P and Americanized women in those countries.
Basic will relegate you to P4P and Americanized women which in fact would jade your perceptions of that country.
Furthermore, it might dissuade you from going into the "barrios" and "favelas" where the "realness" is at.
Aprende español a un nivel intermedio antes de irte a Mejico. Lo tomo en serio.

Hero,
E_Irizarry is correct. I met a Mexicana from Merida who has a little more than what guys here are looking for in a girl. I am glad she knows Intermediate English (not fluent by a long shot though). I am learning (or re-learning Spanish from High School). I have not used it for a long time so I can read most things and I think you should try to see if you can get a Grammar book and then increase your Vocabulary. Usually about 2-3 months you can speak well and about 6+ months you should be high intermediate/fluent.
I am not sure if Hero should go to a favela/barrio. As that is too real.

The "realness" would mean that people there cannot speak a lick of English, in thatThe_Hero_of_Men wrote:What do you two guys mean by "the realness"?
they don't subscribe to the toxins of Western/American CUNTure (culture).
aozora13's version of the "realness" is that it's crime-ridden and they will f.uck you
up if you walk in there like you have a big income (i.e. flashing jewelry or money or
iPhones or Tablets in the open).
But if you know how to put that away and know the language, you will be alright 9.8
times out of ten.
