Fame does not get you women, high STATUS does. Lot's of men have great fame but low relative status as men. Think Gilbert Gottfried, Pee Wee Herman, and Brian Stelter(below).

While most Sumo wrestlers are very overweight, they are very muscular underneath their bulk. They are also a lot taller than the average Japanese male with many of them standing well over six feet in height. They're enormous men. They also make a shit load of money with the tournaments they fight and train for heavily. From an evolutionary perspective they are appealing to local women... they are powerful men, physically imposing, good earners and later in life many form their own stables and train young hopefuls, earning a sweet buck that way.
