Winston why don't you and Dianne move to some place nice, on luzon like baguio or tagatay or even puerta gallera 81 miles from manilia. Somewhere in the provinces where the air is clean for your health. I know about the jeepney pollution from living in malatte/ ermita and qc. Even liivng in san pedro laguna and cavite and alabang muntinlupa was better on the lungs by far. Soemone give Winston a list of good places on luzon please. I hope you lungs get better soon.

I agree with what another poster said: guys who go to angeles or malaate/ ermita( I live there alot) are only awed becasue of the bad treatment they got back in their home country.
Very true, they get charmed by the bola 2 that the bar girls and even alot of "normal pinays spout" if you ever try to date a bar girl or a pinay scammer you'll find out really quickly the real meaning of bola 2. I can tell you alot of stories from myself and about 50 male friends regarding pinays in the phils and hawaii that screwed joe kano over badly.
I really don't see anything mystical in the pfp scene in the phils or thailand, I don't judge it either as I have done it myself 8 times but a real relationship with an honest pinay is alot more fufilling in the long run. Unfortunanltey there are scammers out there who will say and do anytihng just to put rice on the table so be careful and they come from every corner of the phils to the major cities to do dirt. That said I love the weather, food and malls bars and nightclubs and women. Just, really put soem effort in finding a decent woman instead of the first hot lbfm that comes along.

True but the bars are good for something. They offer variety of girls, and fun. You see, the girls there flirt back with you and they act silly, playful and childish. I'm like that too. I like acting childish and silly, and so do they. In that way, I bond with them. Most guys don't act that way. But I do. And it resonates well with Pinays, because they too like acting childish and silly back to me. It's hard to explain. You'd have to come here to see what I mean. Rock and Ladislav have seen what I mean and can attest to it.

It's a lot of fun when you can act childish and silly here with girls who act the same way back. It's not something you can do in the states. American girls aren't going to act silly and playful with you. They are much more serious and trying to be mature.

Hey check out this new travel site about Angeles City. According to it, NOTHING NEGATIVE exists about Angeles City, only positive things do. LOL. Isn't that so typical of travel sites? Don't you hate that? It's so stupid. The site is informative, but it pretends that everything in Angeles City is great and every place, bar and restaurant is wonderful. lol. Geez. Why do travel sites always do that? It's sickening.

Why doesn't it bother to mention the terrible pollution (which is worse than Manila) and the ridiculous trike fares that are nearly 10 times higher than the rest of the country, and getting worse as more trikes line up everywhere and you can't walk anywhere without hearing "trike!" every few seconds?! It's f***ing annoying as hell, but that's the greedy Filipino way to do things, annoy you like hell until you give in.

On the restaurants page, it only says positive things about every place.

Rock, check out the nightlife section. It mentions two clubs with upper class local girls and local models too. Do you buy that? Isn't The Mansion one of the ones we went to? If so, it was on Fields, not Friendship. I wonder if it's another one with the same name?

you seem to have also forgotten that angeles city has a super high crime rate against foreign visitors. additionally the degree of corruption by local law enforcement officials is super high there as well.

As a white older american i have a lot of scond thoughts about angeles city. Everytime i read the news a foreigner is beiing killed or mugged?
I know there are a lot of austrailians there but they arenot exempt from the murder and muggins also. Many of this may be do to illegal activity or justbecause of being a foreiner. I have not heard of holding people for ransom in costa rica or other foreign countries. Last time i was in the pi i had to fight myway out o beingrobbed just walking down the street i early hours in manilla. Maybe cebu is a little better but as a older american i think there are safer places for older people to live and enjoy life. By the way dont let anyone in the pi evenclose to a credit card you will have charges everywhre and a vacation cancelled.

I don't understand something. Angeles City has a negative reputation as a place where bad people flock to, such as opportunists, whoremongers and criminals/mafia. It has a bad rap even in the Philippines as full of bars and whoremongers, which are considered the low lifes of society.

So why then has the city been growing and expanding? More and more hotels are being built every year. And now they are talking about building a Disneyland in Clark field and also expanding the airport, which will drive up real estate prices. This is why people are trying to buy up real estate there now as an investment, before prices rise more.

Why so much expansion and development in such a bad place with pollution, bad people, and a bad reputation? I don't get it. It seems like another ironic paradox.

I am now 13 days here and like it so far. I met a 46 year old danish guy who works from here. The guy says even if he were a billionaire he would stay here.

One good thing in AC in comparison to Pattaya is that there is not that much humidity as there is no Ocean in the near like Pattaya. That seems to me a major factor imho.

To those of you who have been to Angeles City:

Have you noticed that most of the expats in AC not only look old, fat, and bald, but their faces do NOT look kind or decent at all. They look like rough redneck types with no feeling or emotion. Some even have cold looking, evil, sociopathic eyes. It's kind of creepy to see such soulless people. Many of these guys in AC look like the kind of guys you'd rather shoot than talk to, because they are monstrous looking. I'm referring to their personalities and facial expressions too, not just their looks. They don't look like normal friendly men at all. I feel sorry for the bar girls or girls that have to put up with them for money. I don't see how any girl can put up with men who are so cold and whom they cannot connect with. Men in AC like that make me feel so out of place in AC. Every time I see them, I wonder WTF I'm doing here. Yet they make up most expat men in AC. WTF?

Any of you notice this too when you were in AC?

Why aren't there more normal looking men in AC, the kind who are kind, friendly, honest, cheerful and approachable, like me?

Yes, true Winston though there a alot of this type in Pattaya too. But you have there a lot of younger people and even western girls too.

AC seems to me the last place for guys who don´t know where to go. I don´t know if I am one of them. lol. The thing is as you pointed out in your 14 points that AC is kind of a shithole. It´s quite hard to feel happy if you constantly watch your back. The main talk here is always scamming Philipinas and the crime. There was a black guy who carries a knife and demonstrates how he would kill anybody who f***s with him and tell how he stares and trike drivers to make them clear not to f**k with him. Yeah kind of a sociapath.

Lately a 66 year old white expat guy and his wife got killed. They lived in a bad neigborhood but still it makes you little paranoid.

There are not much places where it´s secure. So you walk always the same roads. You know the Astro park which is not so bad. You won´t see much westerners there. It´s kind of disappointing seeing the pinoys playing basketball and not one foreigner plays with them. Probably because of security reasons.

Of course many foreingers aren´t fit enough to do it anyway but I know there are many guys who are fit enough. Here is a quite a black community even these guys do not go there.

The only real things are the girls everything else is kind of shit. Many guys can not entertain themselfs and with the limited possibilities things get worse here. I know an garage expat bar where many guys hang out and drink to much beer. That´s kind of the most secure place for the guys. Connecting with pinoy guys is mostly out of question.

And with the raids most cooler guys may left the country for Thailand. I heard last year was the worst year for the bar scene. So there is no new investment and the infrastructure doesn´t get better.

On the other hand your value with the girls are grater as they are more desperate than Thai girls. If AC became like Pattaya prices would go through the roof. Then there would be strong limitations for the foreigner. With the good also comes the bad.

But looks like where prostitution is there is a lot of mean elements of society. So as always no risk no fun. Getting girls was never been easy so compromise has to be made.

Maybe a good thing in AC is that it´s foreigner friendly. That means you don´t have to adapt to their backwards culture and play by their rules. They mostly try to adapt to you here. Which makes things easier.

chanta, AC probably yes. Or somebody has a business there. I met an american guy at the disco there who is invested in a hotel there for example.

For the PI probably also yes. An indicator may be the numbers of female expats. There are very few. Of course for tourists to boracay and palawan things are different. But generally people might prefer Thailand as it has also super beaches and better infrastructure.

They say it's more fun in the Philippines. That may be true. Here it's easier to make friends, even middle class ones. There is often a cheerful attitude, people are very easygoing and tolerant, and they are very polite. They don't seem to put you under a microscope and judge you on every little detail. Attitude means a lot here.

I have some very generous local friends who have the means to spend money. They are kind and giving They will fight to pay for everything. They don't expect anything back except sincerity and respect.

But, here you also have to deal with layers and layers of inefficiency, gross stupidity, laziness, and total lack of common sense. What might take 5 minutes in Taiwan could take you hours here. You will spend time in queue after queue only to be told you need to go somewhere else, they are out of whatever it is you want, the system is offline, etc. You can spend 2 hours traveling just a couple kilometers in Metro Manila traffic if you don't time things right. So much of the public infrastructure is horribly pathetic, more African than Asian. Yet private industry builds some beautiful and magnificent condos, malls, casinos, and resorts within all this crumbling public lattice so it's a very bizarre experience mixing first and third worlds.

Thailand is soooo much better infrastructure wise. But...Thais in Pattaya and much of Bangkok often have horrible attitudes underneath. Many seethe with thinly veiled contempt at we visitors who have overtaken much of the space in the capital the way Filipinos do in Central Hong Kong every Sunday. 30 million foreign arrivals a year - know it all westerners who monger with the lowest element, uncouth, loud, and uncivilized Chinese, dirty smelly Indians and Arabs, etc. etc, you get the picture. And to make things worse, Thais identify with one strong and culture which westerners often find baffling. And we visitors and expats are squarely on the outside of that. In contrast, Philippines is more a large collection of disjointed groups (barangays regional and language divisions, etc.) with a weaker national identity. They don't stick together (us vs. them) the way Thais do. While Phils. has a somewhat larger population than Thailand, they only get 1 foreign visitor for every 6 who go to Thailand. They have not suffered from foreigner invasion the way Thailand has...yet anyway. I've toured many provincial Filipino cities and towns and gone days without seeing a westerner. The only place where I see a concentration of them is Metro Manila (in certain areas), Angeles City along Fields and Friendship, Cebu, Boracay, and perhaps a smattering of other resort/tourist areas.

As for Angeles City, it is magnet for bad elements, just like Pattaya. But, I like to visit there once in awhile. It's like a provincial city with western amenities - restaurants/food, hotels, swimming pools, bars and nightlife, casinos, day tours to Pinatubo, hot springs, or Subic, etc. You can eat international food and chill with other expats. Not all are as dreadful as Winston portrays. There's quite a few cool black American guys there too if you can manage to break into any of their cliques. I love visiting provincial cities to escape the vertical jungle of Makati and Metro Manila. But they are generally not western friendly and have horrible food and infrastructure compared to Metro Manila. Angeles City is the exception.
