I used to care a lot about this, but nowadays it is overruled by other factors.

Anyways, FWIW:

Brazilian Portugese sounds better to me than South American Spanish (Castellano), and the latter sounds better than Mexican Spanish here in Baja.

Within Mexico, upper class Spanish sounds better than rural/lower class Spanish.

The better Spanish or Portugese sounds to me, generally the harder it is for me to understand it with my American ears.

BTW, I read that the voices of Vietnamese women are more pleasant to hear than Khmer or Thai.

I understand South American Spanish better than the Spanish you hear up in New York (puerto Rican Spanish, I guess?). Is it me, or do the more clearly pronounce things down there?
