How did the US Income Tax ever get ratified?

Post by Winston »

There's something I don't get. Why would any politicians in Congress ever vote to ratify an income tax amendment? (16th amendment) Wouldn't that be the most unpopular thing that would get every House member NOT re-elected? How did such an unpopular thing get passed, which would have never passed in a true democracy of course, since no majority would ever vote for an income tax.

Of course, Wikipedia is going to say that the 16th amendment was properly ratified, since Wikipedia is the defender of the official version of everything. No surprise there.

Here is a site though that claims that it was never really ratified:

This just goes to prove that we have never lived in a real democracy.
