Puppycide - police and dogs

Post by HappyGuy »

"Department of Justice estimates that nearly 25 dogs are killed by law enforcement every day in the United States, which makes a total of 10,000 per year."

In 2016 there was a documentary made about Puppycide called "Of Dogs and Men" but it's no longer available for free on the website, you have to buy or rent it through Amazon or iTunes: https://www.OfDogsAndMen.net

If the police are doing their duty in a reasonable scenario that isn't very intrusive, and kill a dog that is a threat, I don't think it's that big a deal. Of course, it is sad and all that, but if it's an aggressive attack dog and they have a warrant for a criminal who has trained the dog to kill, it's reasonable to shoot to defend themselves.

A couple of months ago, a man called about his neighbors door being opened. The police went to investigate and shot a woman in her own home who didn't put her hands up. Some strange dude in the yard starts barking orders at you and shoots you. That's crazy. Police in this situation shouldn't be allowed to kill people or dogs.

Maybe something needs to change about their training in regard to what weapon to use. They are probably trained to pull out the pistol in a split second if they feel their life or well-being is threatened. How much would it detract from their chances of staying alive if they are trained to reach for a taser first?

If a 250 lbs. 17-year-old unarmed black fellow is coming at a white cop, can't he take a split second to reach for a taser instead of a pistol? If a dog is 5 yards away, that's enough time to think 'taser first.'

It's a lot harder to hit a target with a rifle than a pistol. Shot guns have a wide spread. If there were some kind of 'wide spread' taser like device that gave police a much higher percentage chance of hitting a target than a pistol, it might be safer for them to reach for a taser than a pistol, which could result in fewer deaths.

Aug 3, 2019: Police officer shooting at dog accidentally kills woman

"The Dallas Morning News reports a police officer in Arlington, Texas has been placed on administrative leave after firing three shots at a dog and accidentally shooting and killing a woman nearby. The officer was checking up on a woman who was said to be passed out near a shopping center when the barking dog ran toward him. A police body camera caught the action."

Why would cops shoot dogs? Why not tazer them? Don't cops carry tazers? I never heard of dogs being shot in America. Usually dogs are a cult worship in America.
