If China dumped it's dollar-based securities and caused the dollar to be so worthless that gold was $64k and ounce, would that do it, or does that value for gold mean that the dollar has to stay at it's current value?

If they are going to back currency, they could use a basket of commodities instead of just gold.

If China were to announce later this year it has 10,000 tons of gold it would be proof to the world there's no gold in Fort Knox which would send the dollar crashing.

I'm talking about China selling treasury bills at pennies on the dollar. They've been financing our national debt, lending us money to keep our economy going. If they considered it more useful to them to crash the dollar or destroy our economy than to have somewhat valuable T-bills, they could dump them on the market and lower the value of the dollar. You might say our economy exists because of China's good graces and their desire to keep their T-bills somewhat valuable.
