Genius & Talent: What motivational gurus never tell you!

Post by Winston »

What I've noticed is that all new age, self improvement, motivational books and authors all tell half truths. For instance they say that intelligence and talent and geniusness dont matter. But basic logic and historical and modern examples and the biography of successful people disproves this.

For example in the case of Steve Jobs, he was not some average Joe who was persistent and never gave up. In the late 1970s he had a best friend named steve wozniak who built the worlds first personal computer, the apple 1, with his bare hands to help him create the Apple personal computer industry.

An average joe cannot do that. An average person does not have a friend like wozniak. No friggin way. Only a genius could do that. Only someone with a strong mechanical aptitude and is a computer genius could do such a thing, especially since no one knew anything about computers in those days.

If Steve Jobs had low IQ or was dumb and simple, he could not have accomplished what he did no matter how persistent he was or how different he tried to be. So of course it takes talent and geniusness to be the kind of success that he was.

Bill gates in the early 70s was able to hack into his college mainframe computer. Again thats not something an average Joe can do. So he was no average joe. Gates was obviously a computer genius too.

Take Thomas Edison. He was also a genius too. And talented with a great aptitude for building things. He could take apart a watch and then put it back together again. Thats not something an average joe can do. Edison showed geniusness at a young age. He wasnt an average joe.

So why did Edison give out that famous quote to everyone that "success is 1 percent geniusness and 99 percent perspiration"? Thats a half truth. Of course persistence and a never give up attitude matters, but that alone isnt gonna make you successful like Edison or Gates or Jobs. Lol. You gotta be very talented and brilliant and be very very good at what you do too. And have realistic achievable goals as well.

So why did Edison say that then? He tried to make himself look like an average Joe who achieved so many new inventions because of his sheer persistency alone. Yeah right.

But thats not true. I know a lot of dumb low IQ people in Asia who are simpletons and have no imagination and no ability to think, who can never achieve anything like Edison or Jobs or Gates no matter how persistent they try to be or how much they believe in themselves. Thats just a fact of life.

Most people do not hold some potential for greatness like these new age self improvement books claim. Most people are simpletons and sheeple who are followers who just want a simple routine and simple job so they can make a living. Not everyone has the potential for greatness or success. Thats total new age fiction and is not what reality and history show. So its not true that anyone can become a success and rise above the rest.

So why does everyone lie about this? Why do all new age and self help gurus tell half truths? Why do they all deny that talent and geniusness matter?

The only logical reason i can think of is that its unpopular to tell the truth about this kind of thing. People cannot control how smart or talented they are. But they can control how persistent they are. So they dont want to hear that success depends on something out of their control, like geniusness or talent. If you tell the cold hard truth about that, you wont be able to sell books. Its not popular or politically correct to say that only brilliant talented people can succeed.

But its very obvious that every successful person was very good at what they did. Its a no brainer. So being persistent alone isnt gonna make you successful. Yet thats the lie that sells and that all self improvement authors are pitching to everyone. They arent really that stupid right? Do they really believe their own lies and half truths?

Questions for them:

Would Steve Jobs or Bill Gates or Thomas Edison have accomplished all they did if their IQ was average or below average? Of course not. No way!

Would Gary Kasparov have been world chess champion for so many years if his IQ was average or below average? Or if he didnt have a natural talent in chess? Of course not. No way! He had a genius IQ and natural talent in chess, as well as a photographic memory of chess moves.

In fact every chessmaster ive met has a photographic memory of chess moves it seems. They are able to recount every single move after a game ive noticed. Thats not something an average Joe can do.

Would Stanley Kubrick have made so many great movies and masterpieces if he didn't have a genius IQ and talent as a filmmaker? Of course not! Duh.

Would Mozart or Beethoven have composed all those classical masterpieces if they had no genius talent in music but only had persistence and belief in themselves and confidence? Of course not! Its a no brainier!

So the point is, persistence, belief in oneself, passion and confidence alone isnt gonna make you successful or be able to achieve anything you dream. Lol. No way. Of course talent, intelligence and geniusness matter too and are essential minimum requirements as well. You need both, persistence and talent, not one or the other. Every historical and modern example shows this.

I could play basketball all day and all night for instance, yet ill never be able to make it as an NBA basketball star. I simply dont have the athletic aptitude or talent. So my persistence isnt gonna cut it. In fact theres no historical example of someone like me ever becoming a sports star just because of persistence and passion alone.

Go ask any professional sports coach and they will tell you that atheltic aptitude is a minimum requirement for them to be willing to train someone, and that persistence or belief in oneself is not enough. Serious sports coaches live in the real world, not the fictional new age world, so they will tell you the cold hard truth that a new age motivational guru will not. And they will not train you if you dont have the natural athletic aptitude required.

So why is everyone lying then and speaking half truths and denying something so obvious and easily probable with many real life examples? I dont get it. People must really hate the truth. They prefer the "anyone can do it" type of lie and mantra, no matter how untrue it is.

Its also not true that anything is possible and that the skies the limit. There are goals that are achievable and realistic and goals that are not achievable and unrealistic. And not every goal, even if achievable for some, is achievable for everyone. Thats just life. Yet no one wants to hear that. But we all know this deep down. Its common sense. This means its wise for you to pick goals that are achievable and realistic to some degree. Not something like pie in the sky type dreams.

Right? What do you all think?

Its been irking me lately how everyone believes in lies and denies all this, as if everyone were part of a mass delusion. Very weird. Why dont people love the truth like i do? They only love truth if its positive and sounds good it seems. Lol

What do you think?

Re: Genius & Talent: What motivational gurus never tell you!

Anyway, regarding genius and talent, here are my logical conclusions:

1. Its best to do something you're good at or have some skill and talent in. All successful person have one thing in common: they did something they were very good at.

If you're not good at anything then you should try to learn new skills, like a trade. And hold a job you either like/love or at least can tolerate.

2. Set goals and dreams that are achievable and somewhat realistic. Not totally out of your reach or too pie in the sky unrealistic, otherwise you will only end up in disillusionment and disappointment.

Now its ok to set goals that are a little out of your reach. That may help you try to strive beyond your limitations and improve yourself. Stretching your limits is good for you, just like stretching exercises are good for your body. But not too far beyond your reach.

Then once you achieve those goals you can set new ones or take it a bit further as long as they are within your means. You gotta take baby steps.

A wise person knows his limits. There is no such thing as unlimited or "the sky's the limit". In the physical universe there are always limitations. Nothing is unlimited. So dont fall for that New Age BS. Even miracles have limitations. For example, healing miracles can cure cancer or other terminal illnesses, but they cannot regrow limbs.

So dont fall for that "you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it or believe in yourself or never give up, etc." Thats all bull.

It depends on what you consider to be success too. If you want to just hold a regular job you dont need any talent or genius or high intelligence. You just need to be average and responsible and hard working and a team player who fits into your work environment and conforms.

But if you wanna rise above the rest in some way, you need to be different and have good ideas and be a visionary.

However, many success gurus, new age teachings, and many americans falsely teach that nothing is impossible and that one can achieve anything if one has the following:

1. A positive attitude and belief in oneself and confidence.
2. A persistent never give up attitude.

So many americans actually belueve that. Its crazy and only testifies as to how delusional Americans are compared people in other countries. I guess that BS sells but it just isnt true. Those who are very successful, like rich and famous, have a multitude of factors going for them, most of which is out of your control, and they usually have qualities and advantages that the average person doesnt have, such as genius, talent, connections, timing, luck, etc. Not just persistence alone or a positive attitude.

For example, steve jobs had multiple things going for him, most of which the average person does not.

1. He had a high IQ and was a computer genius.
2. He was a great visionary with revolutionary ideas that were achievable and whose time had come. Ideas for products that benefitted people such as personal computers and iPods.
3. He had a best friend named steve wozniak who could build personal computers by hand, at a time when they didnt exist yet. So he partnered up with him to design the apple computer industry.
4. He convinced investors to invest in his apple company. Thus using his art of persuasion.
5. His timing was great. The technology to build personal computers had arrived but no one had mass produced them to the public yet.
6. He received his divine mission in life in India from a yogi master.
7. He had good business skills.
8. He had good design skills.
9. And of course he was persistent and had a never give up attitude.
10. Perhaps he had other intangible qualities and factors in his favor too.

So you see, steve jobs was not just an average joe who was persistent and had a positive attitude. He had a lot more than that, which the average person doesn't.

Thus ,to succeed, average people have to have a lot more going for them than just a good attitude or persistency. Thats just the plain truth. Those who tell you otherwise are BSing you or lying and selling false hope and false promises. New agers and positive attitude junkies and biocentrists (those who believe literally that the universe all exists inside their head) need to get this through their heads.

Now take Thomas Edison, the great inventor, innovator, visionary and business man. He had the following going for him.

1. Geniusness and high intelligence.
2. Talent in technical skills. He could take apart a watch and put it back together again, which the average person cant do.
3. Great ideas for new inventions and products that benefit people and utilize electricity and the transfer of it.
4. Rich financial backers and benefactors such as the billionaire tycoon JP Morgan.
5. The art of persuasion skills in order to convince people like JP Morgan to finance him.
6. Business skills to make his inventions profitable to big businesses and industries.
7. Political skills to take credit for his inventions rather than let others take credit for them. Something which Nikola Tesla lacked.
8. And of course, persistence and a never give up attitude.
9. Perhaps he had other intangible qualities and there were other factors involved too.

So you see, again Edison was not some average joe who was persistent and had a positive attitude. Even if Edison hinself said his success was 99 percent due to perspiration, per his famous quote, its just not true. All the above were major factors. And most of them just aren't available to the average person.

So you see, its not true that "anyone can succeed" if they just believe in it and never give up their dreams. That may be politically correct, but its just not true or is a half truth only.

But of course if you pick an achievable goal then you can succeed if youre good at it and have the qualities to achieve it.

For example, if you want to live in asia and teach English, that is an achievable goal if you take the practical steps to achieve it. If you want to make some passive income on the side, that's achievable too if you are good at something that produces such income that is. And if you wanna make some money online, that is posible too, as long as you have good computer skills and some good ideas that will generate some business. You cant suck at it of course or have no basic computer skills.

If you want to be a writer and attain some fame for it, that is doable as long as you are a good writer with good computer skills and have the ability to capture a readership for your blog, website or books. Again you have to be good at it. You cant suck at it and succeed with a positive attitude alone.

But if you want to be rich and famous, or acquire something hard to get, thats another matter. If its out of your reach and you dont have multiple factors going for you, and meet the requirements, or have the right connections and talents, then its just not gonna happen, regardless of your attitude or persistency. Thats just the way it is.

A wise person knows what's achievable and what isn't, and what his limits are. A lot of this is basic logic and common sense but many americans are too delusional to accept it. They'd rather believe that one can achieve anything and that nothing is impossible. Nothing in reality or science or history supports that of course, its just a false belief and delusion.

Even if you wanna be a movie star, pop singer or professional athlete, you dont need much intelligence, but you do need a lot of talent, charisma, and connections. Again you gotta be very good in those areas. You cant suck. A lot of famous actors had family connections in Hollywood too, such as parents who were actors, that helped them break into show biz. These are things you have to have to succeed. Persistence and positivity arent enough unfortunately.

Also to be a model or screen actor, one also has to be photogenic and have a face that works well with the camera, one that "the camera likes" in other words. Not everyone has that. Even many attractive beautiful people are not photogenic. And you also need a certain charisma that shines out well on photos or video. (Like Cindy Crawford had for example.) Many attractive people do not have that so they cannot be models, no matter how good looking they are.

So you see, there are so many factors at stake, depending on the industry you want to be successful in. Having confidence, a positive attitude, and a persistent attitude just isnt enough. If it were, then everyone or most people would succeed just by being persistent and positive. But it isnt that easy of course.

My final advice and solution for you all:

If you've reached this far and havent lost all hope yet, then heres my advice and solution and offer of hope to you all - a hope that is achievable, realistic and more controllable:

First, you Americans, New Agers and motivational gurus need to stop preaching false lies, false hope and false promises like this just because they are popular. You need to come down to reality and seek a more authentic life, one that is filled with meaning, rich human relationships, quality friendships, and spiritual values.

Instead of having unrealistic dreams about riches and fame, you need to seek balance, inner peace, authenticity, be less materialistic and seek a more simple minimalist lifestyle. Such things are a lot more achievable and down to earth, and will bring more inner peace as well. You should seek to work less and cultivate more meaningful relationships with others, which is the key to happiness. And you should work less and play more. Seek a higher purpose and meaning in life, not just make money.

To be happy and free, we must:

1. Have the freedom to do what we love and refuse to do anything else, regardless of whether we make any money or not. As the great mythologist Joseph Campbell always advised, "follow your bliss".

2. Have the freedom to be ourselves and be accepted and valued for who we are. Find friends who will let you be yourself and value you for it.

3. Have friends who like us for who we are, not for our usefulness to them. And develop rich meaningful relationships with them.

4. Have a higher purpose and meaning in life other than making money. One that satisfies your soul and fills you with passion and excitement.

5. Seek inner peace rather than wealth or fame. Its much more achievable and longer lasting and controllable as well. And results in a happiness that is longer lasting and more stable too. Inner peace does not require you to acquire things out of your reach or have factors going for you that are out of your control. Seek a rich inner life, which is more attainable and under your control.

6. Live a minimalist lifestyle that requires less work, less money, less stress and less troubles and complications, so that the above is more achievable and money is less an issue.

These things are far more achievable and sensible and controllable than trying to become rich, famous or successful. And thats the good news i think. Thats the real true hope i want to offer you all, instead of offering false promises and delusions. Think about it. Meditate on it. Sleep on it.

Thanks and best of luck to you all.

Re: Genius & Talent: What motivational gurus never tell you!

Btw have u all noticed that in Asia today, a lot of women and girls want to be free from working menial regular jobs. However they have no talent or intelligence or visionary capabilities to become a successful entrepreneur? Have you met those types? Its like what advice do you give them? Lol.

Women just arent good at innovation and invention, especially in technology or business or science. And if they hate holding a regular job because theyre too freespirited and freedom loving, what can they do then? Become a boring housewife for a man? Lol

Have any of you met young Asian women like that? Lol. What do u tell them? I see no logical solution to their dilemma. And they mostly only have average IQs too. Lol

Now i know that in China there are quite a few women who are successful in business. However the average asian girl doesn't have the skills, talent, intelligence, creativity or business skills necessary to become an entrepreneur. Not even close. Someone like Oprah Winfrey or Martha Stewart is one in many millions of women.

Heres what my Venetian friend alex said about those type of asian girls. Lol

[10/8, 4:07 PM] Alex From Venice: the simple solution: find a guy that provide them the means for the kind of life they desire

[10/8, 4:17 PM] Winston: But what if they are picky and dont want to settle down with a guy? Lol. Or want to be free? Or are too picky about guys? Lol

[10/8, 4:18 PM] Winston: Have u met asian girls like this? Lol. They are a lost cause.

[10/8, 4:18 PM] Winston: They cant become entrepreneurs. They have no talents or skills or intelligence. Lol. Just spoiled girls who think they are freespirits. Lol

Re: Genius & Talent: What motivational gurus never tell you!

Post by Winston »

Here is a deep discussion that me and my Venetian friend alex had on the above subject of genius, talent, success, and the lies and half truths of the new age motivational industry and self-improvement success gurus.

[10/8, 12:48 PM] Alex From Venice: Steve Job didn't design and build the first Apple computer, it was his "genius" friend (from wealthy family) Steve Wozniak, to design and build it
[10/8, 12:49 PM] Alex From Venice: Bill Gate would have been just a "noone" hacker if he didn't bought the first Operative System from a true genius and then sold to IBM
[10/8, 12:51 PM] Alex From Venice: Thomas Edison wasn't a genius, the genius was Tesla which Edison make his intention profitable, like Job did with Wozniak
[10/8, 12:51 PM] Alex From Venice: many genius aren't and will never get rich and popular
[10/8, 12:52 PM] Alex From Venice: high and super high IQ doesn't translate in success and wealth
[10/8, 1:32 PM] Winston: But its an essential ingredient to success. or a minimum requirement. right?
[10/8, 1:32 PM] Winston: I never said intelligence alone would make u successful.
[10/8, 1:33 PM] Winston: I said those are minimum requirements. Just like a college degree is a minimum requirement for many jobs.
[10/8, 1:33 PM] Winston: Btw jobs IQ was above average. Look it up. He wasnt an average joe.
[10/8, 1:34 PM] Winston: True Tesla was more genius than Edison. But Edison was far more genius than an average man. Especially compared to stupid people in Asia ive met.
[10/8, 1:34 PM] Winston: U dont deny such basic facts right?
[10/8, 1:35 PM] Winston: Gates was a computer genius and business genius. Both. Not average man.
[10/8, 1:35 PM] Alex From Venice: I of course agree with you that persistence isn't enough to achieve a wished goal
[10/8, 1:35 PM] Winston: U cant deny those men had above average intelligence. Thats for sure.
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Winston: But then why do all new age and self help books say persistence alone is enough? And belief in oneself too.
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Alex From Venice: they were intelligent men for sure, not genius
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Alex From Venice: they were "talented"
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Winston: Genius by some standards. Depends on your standard.
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Winston: Yes so talent is essential right?
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Alex From Venice: their talent was the most important on human society
[10/8, 1:36 PM] Alex From Venice: the talent to talk and convince others
[10/8, 1:37 PM] Alex From Venice: charisma
[10/8, 1:37 PM] Winston: If i asked a professional sports coach to train me, he will not unless he sees some talent and athletic aptitude right?
[10/8, 1:37 PM] Winston: But self improvement books never tell u that
[10/8, 1:37 PM] Winston: They always say all dreams are possible and that the sky is the limit. Etc.
[10/8, 1:38 PM] Winston: Every successful person has one thing in common: they were very good at what they did.
[10/8, 1:39 PM] Winston: For example if you compare Edison to a stupid Filipino like your landlord, then yes he will be a genius. Lol
[10/8, 1:39 PM] Alex From Venice: because we can observe that many who has the talents, gifts, assets, to achieve something great, they miss it because they don't believe in themselves, they don't try hard, they renounce to pursue their dream and discourage after the very first failure
[10/8, 1:40 PM] Alex From Venice: so it's important to insist on persistence
[10/8, 1:41 PM] Winston: Yes thats true. But new age books discount that and claim that any average person can succeed if they are persistent. They claim intelligence or talent doesnt matter. Thats a lie right?
[10/8, 1:41 PM] Winston: Have u read any new age self help books?
[10/8, 1:41 PM] Alex From Venice: as you said it's worthless to talk about someone intelligence, skills or talents, because you have it or you don't, there's nothing that can be said
[10/8, 1:42 PM] Winston: But all gurus and authors and books in new age self help industry say those lies. Its a common pattern ive noticed.
[10/8, 1:42 PM] Alex From Venice: but it worth to talk about persistence because many don't have it but they could chose to have it
[10/8, 1:44 PM] Alex From Venice: anyway there's always lot of rhetoric in many self improvement talks and philosophy
[10/8, 1:45 PM] Winston: For example if you compare Edison to a stupid Filipino like your landlord, then yes he will be a genius. Lol
[10/8, 1:45 PM] Winston: Right? Lol
[10/8, 1:46 PM] Alex From Venice: rhetoric that aim to motivate and let everyone hope for the best despite their actual conditions and limitations
[10/8, 1:47 PM] Alex From Venice: yes, Edison compared to my idiot landlord shine like God of Sun
[10/8, 1:47 PM] Winston: U agree at least that if edison was stupid or low IQ simpleton then he would not have invented the light bulb, even if he were persistent right?
[10/8, 1:48 PM] Alex From Venice: yet my idiot landlord makes money, gas properties, is wealthy
[10/8, 1:49 PM] Winston: How did your landlord get his or her capital money to buy such properties?
[10/8, 1:49 PM] Alex From Venice: I don't think Edison invented the light bulb. He invested in the light bulb production and marketing
[10/8, 1:49 PM] Winston: Probably from inhertance right? Not from intelligence.
[10/8, 1:49 PM] Winston: Well edison made the lightbulb work.
[10/8, 1:50 PM] Winston: Thats what he was famous for.
[10/8, 1:50 PM] Alex From Venice: Edison was more a business man than an inventor
[10/8, 1:50 PM] Alex From Venice: like a venture capitalist
[10/8, 1:51 PM] Alex From Venice: but he had "the vision" like Steve Job and Bill Gates
[10/8, 1:51 PM] Alex From Venice: they are visionary
[10/8, 1:52 PM] Alex From Venice: people that can imagine a different world, a different future, that can think "big"
[10/8, 1:52 PM] Alex From Venice: and not get scared to be labelled as "fool"
[10/8, 1:53 PM] Alex From Venice: these people hold a strong self confidence
[10/8, 1:54 PM] Winston: Edison was funded by JP Morgan the billionaire remember? He knew Edison was a genius so he funded him.
[10/8, 1:55 PM] Alex From Venice: that let them to follow and trust their imagination while all the "normal" people around them will easily tell them "don't be stupid, noone will be interested on your idea"
[10/8, 1:55 PM] Winston: Look up edison in the encyclopedia. He is credited as having invented the light bulb in his laboratory. Its even shown in movies too.
[10/8, 1:56 PM] Winston: How come women and filipinos never accomplish what Thomas Edison or Steve Jobs did? Or the wright brothers? Lol
[10/8, 1:56 PM] Alex From Venice: that's what I'm telling you, Edison was talented. The most important talent in the human society, it's to make others trust and follow you
[10/8, 1:57 PM] Winston: Edison could also take apart a watch and put it back together again. An average person cannot do that.
[10/8, 1:57 PM] Alex From Venice: yes, he was talented
[10/8, 1:57 PM] Winston: Edison was talented in science and mechanics too like u. Right?
[10/8, 1:58 PM] Alex From Venice: I don't know, but for sure he had good technical skills
[10/8, 1:58 PM] Winston: Then why did Edison say "success is 1 percent genius and 99 percent perspiration"? He made it sound like an average person can be as successful as him if he merely persists. Lol
[10/8, 1:58 PM] Winston: Yes i meant talent in technical skills. Similar to yourself. But such people are usually talented in business as well.
[10/8, 1:59 PM] Winston: So u need talent in technical skills, talent in business and persuasion, and persistence as well. U need all of them.
[10/8, 1:59 PM] Winston: New age books never mention that.
[10/8, 2:03 PM] Alex From Venice: yes, you need them all
[10/8, 2:03 PM] Alex From Venice: and you need to meet JP Morgan
[10/8, 2:03 PM] Alex From Venice: like Bill Gates met IBM
[10/8, 2:04 PM] Alex From Venice: I think new age books have many rhetoric
[10/8, 2:05 PM] Alex From Venice: that increases the sales
[10/8, 2:05 PM] Alex From Venice: if you tell the plain truth you won't be appealing to the mass
[10/8, 2:07 PM] Alex From Venice: it's like saying the half truth "if you believe in Jesus you'll gain eternal life"
[10/8, 2:07 PM] Alex From Venice: instead "if you believe in Jesus and you do all that he taught you'll gain eternal life"
[10/8, 2:08 PM] Alex From Venice: of course the first version is much more appealing than the second
[10/8, 2:08 PM] Alex From Venice: because it's more easy
[10/8, 2:09 PM] Alex From Venice: but it's half truth
[10/8, 3:05 PM] Winston: What u say is logical. Although the bible is not always consistent, if I were jesus i would not be happy if someone merely believed in me but didnt follow my teachings. That would be hypocritical. Of course following someones teachings is not easy and it involves changing your life and mind too.
[10/8, 3:06 PM] Winston: But Christians in America think they can sin all they want and be forgiven. is that true?
[10/8, 3:07 PM] Winston: Also talking about hell is unpopular too. So many Christian preachers never talk about it. Even famous ones like Joel Osteen dont mention it.
[10/8, 3:07 PM] Alex From Venice: that's because what's is been taught by the church it's the half truth
[10/8, 3:07 PM] Alex From Venice: that believing in Jesus it's the only requirement needed
[10/8, 3:08 PM] Alex From Venice: that's why so many Christians don't act as a Christian should, yet they think they are going to be saved

Re: Genius & Talent: What motivational gurus never tell you!

Jesus christ, that was an essay. I didn't read it all. I just read your opening line.....
"What I've noticed is that all new age, self improvement, motivational books and authors all tell half truths. For instance they say that intelligence and talent and geniusness dont matter"
I have never seen or heard anyone whether self development authors or not say that intelligence and genuis doesn't matter. I cant really get into a discussion on something based on third-hand claims of what you say you have heard other people say....

So you would have to present an actual case to me of someone saying that with the exact quote and in its entirety so I can see exactly what they are claiming for me to agree or disagree with what they are saying. Otherwise its just another strawman.

Winston, one thing I guess "geniuses" know is everything in the world is built off the shoulders of giants, and nobody makes anything from scratch entirely. Steve Jobs and Wozniak bought an off the shelf microprocessor from one of many on the market, and there were other computers on the market, and documentation to build them from scratch using components you could buy from catalogs/magazines pertaining to computers of that era, along with computer clubs. Woz got the already existing BASIC computer programming language and made some small changes to make it his own OS. They were not gods that just poofed computers out of their hands magically. Even now, in modern times, when I tell people I build computers they're like "WOAH, YOU BUILD COMPUTERS" I think "No, Asus does, I just pick the parts out and put them in a box and plug the wires in." I think what you refer to as genius is the ability to think outside of the box (which HA definitely does) but then after, realizing which giant's shoulders to stand on to make your idea happen. Then for what you refer to as "success" that is mostly just a combination of luck and connections after you do this. In this I think it's more deterministic. Many times it's not the best that wins, even in sports, but the person with a better connection to officials/etc, that can make something happen one way or the other. I had a big thing written as well about how the idea of "success" is silly and you should just do stuff and not really care about "success" as the end result if it's something you want to pursue and find worth it/interesting, but it's late now.
