I remember that in the years 2003-2006 finding women was pretty easy (at least here in East Coast US), I serially dated quite a few girls and eye contact was fairly common. Something changed a few years ago. Any theories?

It's a FACT that from age 21 to 40 (and really from 18 to 49) there are a LOT MORE single men than single women. In the US, women don't start to outnumber men until age 50!

I read an article that said there are at least 4 million more single men than single women in the US from age 21 to 45.

The great thing about eastern European countries is that, there are more single women than men. For example, in Ukraine there are 3.5 million more single women than single men. In Russia, for every 8 single men, there are 10 single women.

This explains why the dating scene is so tough for men in the US and so difficult for women in eastern Europe and Russia.

What's also making the dating scene difficult for men is that 50% of women in the US are overweight! So, you have all these men in America chasing the 50% of women who are not overweight. The result is that the women who are not fat are very picky about who they date.
"When I think about the idea of getting involved with an American woman, I don't know if I should laugh .............. or vomit!"

"Trying to meet women in America is like trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics."

But are the pool sizes the same? If we take the 49-year-old man, he has women 20-49 who he can date in theory, whereas a 25-year-old man probably only has the 18-25 pool spanning 7 years + possibly several cougars older than him (but cougars with young men are mostly f**k buddies as opposed to relationships). There may be more single men, but the pool sizes differ substantially between young men and older men, although I'm with you that the numbers should be even better than that (the pools would be even bigger in other countries).

I'm not an American, in fact I have never even been there, but I have a feeling that things have developed in same direction here in Finland.

There could be many explanations, and my first suggestion is pretty cruel: women are fatter, lazier and just don't wanna go outside as often as before. (Women in Finland are among the fattest in Europe and getting fatter. Not as fat as American women though.)

Secondly... Internet dating. Nightlife is not the only or even the most obvious way to seek company anymore.

I'm sure the sex ratio itself hasn't really changed (in USA), but women just are more "invisible", ie. not going outside as much and also getting fatter, so any self-respecting man just don't WANT TO see those women even if they are there to be seen!

However here in Finland the real sex-ratio is also getting worse, because most asylym seekers we get from places like Somalia are MEN. 10 years ago a black man was a pretty rare sight in a nightclub. Today, there are nightclubs that are full of black guys and guys from the Middle East etc... And they mostly party with tax payers' money!

The good news for us Finnish guys is that Russia is closeby, and perhaps in the not so distant future we will get visa-free travelling there, which will make things a lot easier. But even Russia is not what it used to be (and probably is getting worse all the time as people get wealthier).

At birth there are more men than women. But the primary reason why there are more single men in the younger marriage-age category, is because men from older age category who are more economically established are marrying younger women. e.g. my GF is 8 years younger than me.

Ah! I visited Kuopio back in the day, it was very fun in 90's. I heard many stories about Finns loading full buses and going to St. Petersburg to get drunk and get laid. Is that still going on? Your alcohol prices are insane, Russian prices are like 10 times cheaper, no wonder many Finns would hit Russia to have fun.

Finland seems a great country to live though. Nothing like America. I would recommend you visit America. I was raised in Ukraine and live in the States for a long time, so I am speaking these words as an immigrant and as an American.

Actually the golden days of so called "vodka tourism" to St. Petersburg (or Leningrad rather) were back in the 1970s... People still go there, but the traffic of tourism has pretty much turned 180 degrees and now more Russians come to Finland than vice versa (not for p***y of course, but for shopping and to relax)!

Liquor is of course much cheaper in Russia, but you can only import very limited amounts tax free. (Instead, Finns cruise to Tallinn, Estonia for cheap alcohol. Estonia is a member of EU, and importing as much as you want is no problem.)

Nowadays, many Finns (living near the border) drive to Russia basically to fill their gasoline tanks. Gas is about 50% cheaper in Russia. Of course this kind of tourism will explode in the future if you don't need visa anymore some day.

Pussywise, times are tougher than before. Tallinn was the destination of choice for years, but it has gotten much worse lately. I'm sure many men go to Russia for women, but it's not a very common hobby. Geographically Russia is closeby, but it's quite a hassle to get visa and make other arrangements. But I'm sure things will get better in this respect.

PS. I'm sure you visit Ukraine often? Must be nice there... :)

Actually, I have not been to Ukraine at all since I relocated to the U.S. Different things, job, school and personal matters would prevent me from going. A few of my Ukrainian friends go 2-3 times a year, they return to the U.S. drunk with beauty of the girls! They are saying that if they could make such money in Ukraine, they would move there tomorrow. Kiev is a beautiful city now with all kinds of Western-services available.

How about going to Riga or Vilnius? I heard Finns and Estonians have similar language roots, is that true? Are Finns still happy with women in Finland or divorce rates are high? Are women traditional or more trashy and bitchy, like in America? It seemed to me that Finland has a great mixture of "country simple life" with modern amenities and great services. I was shocked with great quality food, fresh baked salmon, cranberry vodka was good too :)

Gas is about $1 per liter in the U.S. right now. Russian prices are just a bit cheaper.

Yes I'm sure Kiev is a beutiful city and especially the women of Kiev are "world class". :) But for the average westener the language barrier might be a big obstacle.

In terms of women, Riga is probably the best of the Baltic capitals, but it has also gone downhill. Vilnius is not good I've heard.

Yes, Estonian and Finnish are related languages. More Estonians can understand Finnish than vice versa, because of tourism and also because during the cold war years Finnish television could be seen in Tallinn, and was very popular as the only "window to the west".

The dynamics of male-female relationships have gone to the same direction here in Finland as in US (and many other countries I'm sure). In fact Helsinki is one of the leading cities in the number of single person households (over 50%!). It means that many women simply prefer to be single. Divorce rates are probably about the same as in US. But there are good down-to-earth women to be found, and also the women are often highly educated (meaning pretty smart, not too bitchy). But better to look for those somewhere else than Helsinki.

"Getting fat" -epidemic is a problem in Finland. I remember when I was in high school over 20 years ago, there were virtually no fat (or even "semi-fat") chicks AT ALL in my school, or only a few. Today, things have changed and "semi-fat" is pretty much the new standard. Very sad. Also, women are not particularly feminine in Finland in terms of everyday clothing, makeup etc. But I think that Finnish women are generally quite beautiful FROM THE NECK UP.

Gas in Finland is about 1.6 euros per liter (~$2.1)...

HungJoe, I agree with Riga. I was there this summer. It has gone down hill as more men tourists become 'marks' to loose money. I think that possibly although the women are more beautiful than American women (truth), they are starting not to like western guys as from the UK, Canada, US. I know that some American/Canadian guys had problems talking to Latvian girls. They would say English and then not talk to the guys who I heard on a travel bus.

Finland, I heard does have problems. However, I think a Finnish guy can leave an find a wife in Russia, Ukraine much easier and a person does not have to stay in 'sex and relationship prison' as the US.

Also for getting fat, in European countries, that is true. I have seen that more women are getting bigger (and for someone being black, a girl having a nice butt is good). However, It is now bad and I am surprised and not happy that many European girls are copying women from the UK, Canada, Australia, and the US.

Gas is expensive in Finland. Conversion would be $8/1 gallon (for US) which is high. I would have to pay almost over $100 dollars/ 77€ for gas in Europe.

Good to have a guy who knows about other European countries. I am in Austria and it is about the same with women being distant but still are more attractive than American women. However, it is not easy to date them (even with okay German). Possibly I have better with the 'average' women in Germany.

Baltic countries "went downhill" for several reasons: increase in wealth, EU membership and increase in (sex-)tourism there. They are more like Western European countries now, but perhaps still a little bit better in terms of availability of women. (And arguably better in the "looks" department.)

True, it is easier for Finns and Europeans in general to "travel abroad" for women. In fact I live so close to St. Petersburg that I could basically have girlfriend(s) there and go see her/them weekly by my own car (or bus or train)! Or they could come here as easily to see me.

Options for North Americans are more restricting. Of course Central America is pretty closeby. (But Mexico is now one of the most obese countries in the world!) Cuba could be a nice destination if/when it opens up. (For a very short period until it is "spoiled").

For Americans and "American type blacks" Nordic countries (incl. Finland) are actually a pretty good destination I think (for "freebies" and "one night stands"). Maybe not as good as Eastern European countries, but still I think local ladies are pretty attracted to Americans, and also don't have much moral problems about short term relationships.

Also, Nordic women are pretty "easy" when THEY travel abroad.

It seems that many women are attracted to foreigners in general.

America is already like China because of the woman shortage. And this is why I'm looking for 18-19 year old women instead of women my age, unless I get out of Americhina.

Another thing I read...single men outnumber single women all over the globe because of families aborting baby girls

You can check out more info on these male to female ratios here: http://www.halfsigma.com/malefemale_ratio/ On this site, scroll down the page to see all the figures for ratios, by city, state and age group.

ages 18-20, 52.1% unmarried men 4,048,871, 47.9% unmarried women 3,719,306

ages 21-24, 54.1% unmarried men 4,412,950, 45.9% unmarried women 3,747,934

ages 33-36, 55.0% unmarried men 1,836,492, 45.0% unmarried women 1,504,618

ages 37-40, 53.7% unmarried men 1,789,844, 46.3% unmarried women 1,544,026
This is the exact reason America is just another China; there are millions of men unable to find a life partner because there's not enough women to go around. Welcome to the United States of China.

think there is a shortage in the US then try China! 50 million men with no women to marry. Try rural Europe...Greece, Germany, total sausage fest.

Young women (in a socialist world) go to the places where they can party and play. Look at cities and France.

Hey jamesbond I was going to post earlier but I knew you have a firm grip on this subject. The sausage-fest is atrocious. I've seen dudes actually stand in line, waiting for a turn to hit on a couple of overrated chix (*laughs while crying).

I hate to keep reposting this image but it puts the idea into persepective

What I don't get is how some PUAs and others claim to make "hundreds" and even "thousands" of approaches, when it's very rare to see a woman you would actually like to approach and that's not with some chump already.
1)Too much of one thing defeats the purpose.
2)Everybody is full of it. What's your hypocrisy?
