Question Re: Purchasing power of American Dollar

Post by Jay »

And perhaps the most important question:

Where can I go online to research very practical information about the buying power of the American dollar in these various countries?

Exchange rate is easy to find, but is useless, as it does not tell a person anything about what you can buy with that much money.

I would need to know the purchasing power of the American dollar for Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Czech republic, and of course South American nations.

I have googled this and not come up with anything very helpful.

Any suggestions?
The internet: And endless process of searching online for sane people and wholesome information while weeding out the dogshit and the rantings of madmen.

Maybe you can google "country name" and "cost of living" to get some ideas on prices for basic things?

I'm at a Coffee Bean in Vegas! @_@

Jay, if you're looking for cost of living data, please consider that there's a huge variance between locations within a country. Whatever "average" data that we might be able to pull up may not accurately reflect local prices in a city or town.

I'll see what I can do later. Gotta run to meet with some folks now.

yeah you're looking for "purchasing power parity"--look it up on google. The United Nations keeps track of this information and does the basic research.

But yes the information does exist. If you can't find it let me know, and I'll find it in my book marks.

See if this works for you. The database has 4,500 cities and they offer a "free" report in exchange for some personal data:
