Early Thursday morning (4/24/14) in Miami Beach, Malcolm Lloyd was the passenger in a Lamborghini driven by his brother in-law, who reportedly was driving more than 100 mph. The car slammed into the rear of an SUV parked at a stoplight, killing Lloyd instantly. He was only 42 years old.

Mr. Lloyd was scholastically brilliant and industrious. He had studied engineering and medicine at the best schools in the world (Johns Hopkins University, Dartmouth College), and was set on a successful, productive career. He was clearly blessed by God with great intellectual talents.

Unfortunately, he wasted those talents. According to Mr. Lloyd, "I have always been passionate about having a good time, and many of these good times have involved a bit of partying and drinking." Losing interest in becoming a surgeon, he chose instead to become a manufacturer and distributor of vodka. In so doing, Malcolm Lloyd chose to promote hedonism, addiction, and drunkenness.

For those unaware, the New Testament teaches that drunkenness is a mortal sin, for which souls are barred from entering Heaven:

"Know you not that the unjust shall not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners, shall possess the kingdom of God." (Corinthians 6: 9-10)

It's not clear yet whether the driver of the Lamborghini (who, incidentally, survived) was drunk or high on drugs. Regardless, Mr. Lloyd's death -- steeped as it was in recklessness and hedonism -- was a sad, but fitting end for a life that had rejected a higher calling suited to his prodigious talents. Malcolm Lloyd was lost in a spiritual fog, and therefore pursued a business of no redeeming social value whatsoever, and that leads to the ruin and deaths of thousands each year. Malcolm Lloyd was the receiver of divine retribution, and is now burning in hell forever.

Update: the driver of the Lamborghini is now facing DUI charges, all but confirming his drunkenness. He was also reported to be driving at around 120 mph in a 50 mph zone:

It was sad but fitting that Malcolm Lloyd -- a maker and seller of vodka -- died as he did. He threw away his God-given talents, and promoted addiction, hedonism, vice, and drunkenness. Once again, God reminds us that mortal sin leads to doom.

[A side note: Although Catholic teaching does not forbid drinking alcohol (wine is, after all, used in the celebration of Eucharist), it does forbid drunkenness. Most people cannot handle alcohol, and should not be drinking it at all. A person can cure himself of drug or alcohol addiction by praying the Rosary everyday, all 15 decades.]

[Another side note: it is also interesting that the crash occurred right after both the driver and Malcolm Lloyd had spent time at the Versace Mansion, named after the late owner, Gianni Versace. Versace was the Italian homosexual fashion designer who was murdered on the front steps of his mansion by another homosexual male, possibly a past "pick-up." Both Versace and Lloyd had engaged in hedonism, vice, and mortal sins, and both died violently near the mansion.]

Edit: The driver of the SUV was badly injured, but survived. Malcolm Lloyd was the sole fatality in the car crash.
