9 Months in Asia!

Wow, I've now been in Asia for 9 months straight .

It started off as a China story, but that place was too crazy for words. I was due to fly home anyway in early July, but with less than 3 weeks to go in China I decided to take my first trip to Thailand. And 5 months later I'm still in Bangkok.

Well this place drives me mad sometimes but I can't bring myself to leave or go anywhere else. Actually my passport is virtually out of space so I can't go very far even if I wanted to.

I did think about going home soon, but my brother in law tells me the UK is pants. Plus I've seen some photos of England in November on Facebook and yikes - am I in for some severe culture shock if/when I go home .

Although I've talked a lot about dating, I've actually been doing quite a bit of work here in Bangkok. I've been getting my geek skills up to date in case I want to find a job here or at home. For that reason language learning has had to take a back seat.

I've dated countless numbers of women here. I should be narrowing down my type, but the fact is there is no type - every once in a while comes along a woman who is totally special, and completely unlike what I thought my type would be.

Current lady is tall, very smart, and also very hot. She is very much like a Hunan lady I tried to make progress with. But this time she's 6 years older, so maybe more likely to want to settle. Well who knows where this is heading. All I know is average man with above average lady - wow, that really does get people's attention . Especially from farang women .

Next year I also plan to be in Asia. I did have a plan, but current lady has appeared and now the plan has turned into no plan. I think having no plan is the best plan of all. Just go where your feelings take you.

I hope some guys make it their new years resolutions to go and see if they're Happier Abroad too . Is dating better than at home? It definitely is in China. Not sure about Thailand. But Thai dating has been interesting to say the least. There's also more variety here than there was in China. As far as money goes, China needs English teachers, Thailand needs smart people. But there are jobs everywhere out here if you do some looking.

Oh, I can also recommend people try out these new mobile hookup apps. Yesterday I had my first ever meeting with a woman I saw on Skout, and she was very nice indeed. Skout is a Western thing, so give it a go wherever you are.

Going to Asia is a life changing event for most western men, its hard to describe in words. I've been in the Philippines for 17 months now, its been a stressful but also an enlightening experience for me. Not being around western women is like a vacation in itself.

5 and a half years and I am still here. I started out in the Philippines, then did a stint in Korea. I returned to the Phils for a loooong stretch, visited Japan, and then spent years in China, where I married and had a kid. I can't say which place is the best, that might depend more on what you're looking for.

If you want to live in the future, like Blade Runner, surrounded by high tech gadgets and convenience, Korea is undoubtedly the place. Japan, of course, has equivalent tech, but it is not as in your face or flashing around you all the time. Beijing and Shanghai would be close seconds.

If you want to live a slow, laid back, relaxing life and not have to work, at least for "the man", then small towns i southern China are the place to be. Yes, there is the language issue, but it is cheaper than Phils, much, much cleaner and higher quality all around. It has more conveniences a westerner would appreciate, whereas to obtain the same in Phils, the prices start approaching the prices back home. You have all natural, non sprayed, non genetically modified foods, grown locally all around you and that you can see, sometimes walking around near your house, before you eat. Strangely, it still offers super fast internet, where you can video chat with someone from the mountain tops.

If you want the best dating, and many choices of girls, Phils might win. I say â€￾might" because I believe small town China is still much better if you can learn the language and make some big cultural adaptations, but those two steps are easier said than done. Having done them, I believe I would do much better here, but I will never kniw since I am already married.

ANY of the places I have been are better than the west by a mile, even Korea! Unless you want to monger or f**k and chuck dozens of good girls, you can find relationships even in Korea or Japan. There was enough interest, even from girls 15 or 20 years younger. (actually I was invisible to women my age) And that's WITHOUT hunting. I just live my life, do my thing, go with the flow and run into them in the natural course of things.

I would never go back if I could choose. I dread the day when relatives back home pass, and I am expected to be at a funeral. My worst fear is going back for something small, and that is when things collapse, passports are taken and martial.law happens or something...

Yes I plan on being back in Asia *soon*. Everyone in farangland is obsessed with Christmas!

Some things are good here, like being able to download a file at 4Mb a second. That's 20x as fast as the best anything in China or Thailand could manage.

Strange going in a bar here and there not being any Beer Chang girls :(.
